Civil 3D Better Way of Creating Reports in Layout Using ViewPorts

Hello all,

I am using Civil-3D 2016 version and I have already created a title-block in layout and want to print my work into a .pdf file. After placing the title-block into layout, I am creating multiple viewports in the layout for viewing different objects from the workspace.

The problem starts off in the viewports; in order to be able to see objects I do a ton of trial "regen" s to be able to see objects because they are all stacked up. Till this point it is still good despite the hassle of "regen" ing many times for a proper view!?!?!

Then when I switch between layouts, viewports and workspace, and as I try to bring objects into another viewport, the objects in the very first viewport, which I already organized everything finely, gets messed up... This gets really frustrating at times.

Is there a better way of creating multiple viewports in the layout and printing them into a .pdf file? I really appreciate if you can give a detailed description.

Regards,

A few things...be sure to turn off UCSFOLLOW, this is what is resting the views. Also, once you have the VP at the correct scale and model space location,, lock it. To create new VPs, I will usually copy an existing one then resize it using the grips to show the location needed for that view.

Are you changing the scale of the viewports as this will also cause problems as you describe?

Can you post a dwg?

Thank you for your reply Jeff.

It still does mess up. I create a VP for example and "display locked" -> YES

made sure -> uscfollow -> "0"

I zoom in an regen for a table, then lock it and "copy" it in the same layout. Some times as soon as I copy it messes up both VPs and I need to go in regen again, but as soon as I modify one VP, move to next one for regen, then the first one gets messed up again. This is really nerve-wracking...

Any other suggestions?

Hi Neily,

I am not playing with the scale at all.

Please see the attached .dwg

layout-1-2-3 should be nice, and see layout4, which gives me trouble when I go between VPs.

Thanks,

Make sure ucsfollow is set to 0 in each viewport, though it shouldn't really matter if you are locking the viewports.

PS: Don't have time to look at your drawing right now.

Yes I do that for each VP but no success on getting it work consistent. Once you do, please see layout-4 in the file I sent earlier.

Thanks,

C3D tables do not change their spacing when the scale changes. Set the VP's scale to 1"=40' and they will display correctly, as that is the scale they were created at. If you are just wanting to show the MassHaul Diagram, not to scale, the freeze the Table layer so it doesn't display i those VP's.

Hi Jeff,

But when I tried to get the scale to 1:40 this view is not as want and I zoom into the objects I want to view -masshaul diagram- then it automatically changes the scale as I see at the bottom. Shouldn't I zoom in? How do I get the view that I want then?

Freezing tables when getting other objects is a good idea.
