Civil 3D 2018 | Slow Selection?

Is anyone else seeing really slow selection times?

I'm in the early stages of a new +/- 900 lot residential subdivision, doing the typical swapping of this size lots for that size over there, etc in client fashion, and I literally timed it at +/- 3 seconds to select a single Parcel with Properties Pane open (before a Select Similar to get a resultant count).

Not sure if it's an issue with Civil 3D 2018.1 as this is the first time I've used Parcels in 2018 (this is my pilot project), or not - I have also just recently installed Windows Fall Creators Update, but nothing else seems (no other application) to be having an issue at all.

Cheers

@BlackBox_ - I just made Screencasts demonstrating the problem on both a Win7 PC and a Win10 (1709) PC - but I don't see how you upload a screencast now days....

@rkmcswain - that sucks; I don't even use Screencasts, and do have the 'Insert Screencasts' options. Haha

I'm confident that Autodesk can reproduce the issue, so not sure they're waiting on Screencasts to confirm, but you are EE, so hopefully that makes a difference?

This selection lag issue, the redundant MMS external surface files issue I have still, it just doesn't make sense which tells me there's a leadership/communication issue in the middle somewhere.

Seemingly anything pertaining to AutoCAD products (areas where AutoCAD is holding Civil 3D back, or where Civil 3D isn't leveraging vanilla AutoCAD), or more generally just getting AEC Collection apps to work well together (round-tripping data from Civil 3D to InfraWorks and back) seems to be ignored regardless of merit, despite the Directors & Managers I've spoken with by phone taking a great deal of interest during our call - what happens after, I can only speculate.

So the issue is in the middle, or the top and they're placating me by phone (which I doubt; I'm pretty good at identifying when someone's full of it). Haha

... Grrr

Attempting to post the Screencasts; not sure if it will let me, since they're not mine... We'll see.

... And since I can only post one-at-a-time, here's Win 10

Screencast will be displayed here after you click Post.

I'm curious as to why you would speculate that.

@rkmcswain - If EE doesn't have #MoreBetter* influence, particularly in times of significant production issues such as this, then I 'spose I don't understand - what's the meaningful benefit of being part of EE then, if your voice has the same level of influence as FNG (Effing New Guy)? Haha

[Edit] - I always forget to add the @ calls. Haha

Can someone from Autodesk please confirm this issue? @TimYarris or @peterfunkautodesk?

Closing Properties Palette, and restarting the system unit temporarily resolves the issue... Which returns after an unknown N number of selections of Civil 3D Objects... Suggests that there's a memory issue.

Is it possible the Civil 3D implementation of Properties Palette is redundantly handling PickFirst Selection Set(s) to populate AECC* Properties, but not properly clearing same on <Esc> KeyDown event?

I speculate that there's a Civil 3D implementation of Properties Palette, as AutoCAD team basically never revises vanilla Classes/Types, Overrules, etc to support a Civil 3D Collection such as List<Properties> to Purge Dialog, Properties Palette, etc... and the fact that this isn't an issue in vanilla AutoCAD, you know, there's that too. Haha

Cheers

@BlackBox_

All I can find is this:

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/article/Civil-3D-Delays-when-selecting-and-releasing-objects

which to mean doesnt mean anything.  all my updates have been installed, the properties palette should be able to be left open (or in my case docked) and not cause issues.

With all due respect, who is writing these AKN articles?

That reads like it is from a customer/user.

The "solution" (or rather, workaround) is actually in the "Issue" portion.

What is offered under the "Solution" is not the solution. If it were, then there would be no need to close Properties.

Another workaround, as @BlackBox_ has mentioned is to close C3D and restart it.

I've noticed quite a few AKN's lately that say they are written by Autodesk support, but look more like they are a support ticket just copied and pasted into an article.  Perhaps if an AKN was written, it means that Autodesk is at least aware of it?

Hi everyone,

I can reproduce this using several of the tutorial drawings that are included Civil 3D 2018.2. I'll do a bit of research and let you know what I learn.

Thanks for reporting this.

Update:

Just wanted to share that I did get a call from Autodesk on this issue today.

They apologized for the long delay in getting back to me on this (Louisa Holland said 48 hrs? Haha), and let me know this is actually being tracked as a formal bug by the Civil 3D team.  A bug that only affects users running Windows 10 + Civil 3D 2018 combination specifically.

That is all.

That's not true. It's a bug in Win 7|C3D2015 & Win 7|C3D2018 as well. That's what I'm running and it affects me as well. They may turn a blind eye to Win 7 installs...but it's still there.

Thanks for clarifying, @Anonymous - I merely shared what the Autodesk employee explicitly discussed with me.

@TimYarris - Can you please make sure that @Anonymous's comments are added to the bug?  Please and thank you.
