Changing alignment for profile views

 I have run multiple profile views for a pipeline (a profile view for each sheet). The pipeline route is now changing. I have a polyline for the new route. The new route isn't significantly different so I could use the same profile views. I would like to create a new alignment by polyline and just assign that new alignment to the existing profile views to avoid having to create all new profile views again but I can't find a way to change or add a different alignment in the existing profile view properties. The current alignment seems to be locked in. Is this possible?

Alignments aren’t assigned to views. Views are assigned to alignment. Modify your alignment to match the polylines.
Note you can cut out section of alignment and add acad objects

Change the name of the current alignment. Make a new alignment from the polyline and give it the name of the old one. Export this alignment to an xml. Undo till you're back to the original alignment and import the xml.  The old alignment will now have the geometry of the polyline.

This would take as long as just rerunning the profiles (lots of new/different PIs and Curves)

This seems like it would work but when I import the the new .xml (new alignment with the original name) all of the original profiles disappear instead of updating.
