Change in Grip Behavior in 2018?

We just upgraded from Civil 3D 2016 to 2018 and are noticing some unusual behaviors with grips.  First, if you select an object, like a polyline, and perform a grip edit, then hit escape to deselect the object, it is deselected but the grips still show.  If you then enter a command, like move, it will prompt to select an object instead of a base point. Or, because the grips are still highlighted, you can perform another grip edit. To make the grips disappear on that object you have to either regen or perform another command.

In a possibly related behavior, if you select an object to highlight the grips, select a grip, right click for the menu, then select a command like rotate, the command gets canceled and you are back where you started. I hope this is just one or two settings I’m missing. Note that we have installed Map2018Hotfixgrip.

I had hoped Map2018Hotfixgrip would fix the problem, but it didn't. At least we can edit more than one grip at a time.
