Hi
I was wondering if it is possible to change the color of the contours depending on the height of it but without having to explode the surface

in the attached file would be the result but with the surface exploded

Hi!  You could use the "Surface Properties > Analysis" tab of the surface to get your color scheme.  Change the analysis type to "Contours", enter in your number of ranges (hit the down arrow) and view your min./max elevation ranges.

Yes it can be accomplished with a combination of Surface Property settings and Surface Style settings.

In the surface properties you'll need to set up an Analysis for contours with contour ranges.

In the surface style you'll need to set the Contour Ranges to use the Color Scheme, set the schemes to Rainbow, and then on the display tab be sure to set the color properties of the contour layer to be BYBlock.

That's what the previous posts are showing you, how to change the color of the contours by height. There is no other way with a surface.

If you extract the contours from the surface, you could apply a LISP routine to change the polyline colors based on elevation but, remember, AutoCAD has only index 256 colors.

Like this?  It divides the rainbow of colors across all of the contours in the surface.

or were you looking for each contour line to be a different color?
