Cancel Command/Deselect Object Makes Drawing Window Not Active

This is a new issue I am having after upgrading from 2015 to 2017.  When I hit ESC or SHIFT to deselect a feature line or any Civil 3D object, it seems I must click or pan within the drawing window before trying to type a command or use the mouse wheel to zoom.  Until you click within the drawing window or pan, the standard Windows cursor is present instead of the normal AutoCAD crosshairs & pickbox.  It is like it takes you out of the drawing window.  For example, if you don’t click into the drawing window before starting to type the next command, you start evoking the quick access keys, same as if you hit the ALT button, as shown below.

When hitting ESC after selecting normal objects like polylines, the normal AutoCAD crosshairs & pickbox are present and you can begin typing commands immediately as you always have.  Is anyone else having this issue or know of potential solutions?

To be able to dock your items most likely.  But what I did until they fixed it is if you right-click the top of the properties window and uncheck the "allow docking" option, then you can put the properties window off to the side how you would normally have it.  But this also worked for me because I tend to keep CAD on the same monitor, if you are a person that flips monitors then this may get annoying.

If you do upgrade to 2017 or later then whatever you do do not use the new grading by feature line corridor feature.  Your feature lines will randomly disappear.  The fact that they still have not fixed this is what has kept us from upgrading from 2017.  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/civil-3d-forum/disappearing-feature-lines/m-p/8570026#M391506.  There are a lot more angry posts about this then just this one.
