can't find map insert

Anonymous
Not applicable

Just migrated from Civil 3D 2010 to 2020 and having trouble finding familiar commands on the toolbars. Specifically, trying to find the map, insert, image. I use  geo-referenced (.jpg/.jgw) image files as backdrops on my site plans. Not finding this anywhere on the toolbars.

Hi @Anonymous

Make sure that you change your workspace to “planning and analysis” first and then it should be on the insert tab (find the Cog wheel on the Status Bar to change Workspaces). You could also type in the command Mapimport on the command line. I would recommend that that you connect to your images instead of inserting, that way your file size is maintained small. To do a connection, type in Mapconnect and choose Raster.

Hope this help,

  1. Type in the command bar MENULOAD hit enter
  2. Browse--> browse to C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\C3D 2019\enu\Support\MapClassic.cuix
  3. Load, then close. Should be now loaded.

You may not see your name under C:\users, you have to tell Explorer to see hidden files.

Which is under the View pulldown, on the ribbon on the right side check "Hidden items" and refresh the screen. You should be good to go for the above directory now.

To insert georeferenced images you can use MAPIINSERT command. Or you can use the ribbon from the Planning & Analysis Workspace.

Change your workspace like this.

1-Change your workspace to Planning & Analysis.1-Change your workspace to Planning & Analysis.

Then Insert tab=>Image Panel=>Image Icon.

2-MAPIINSERT command.2-MAPIINSERT command.

I wouldn't recommend using Mapconnect because you cannot control the image as well as if it's brought in using MAPIINSERT (I think that's what you meant to use instead of Mapimport). It can also cause performance issues and cannot be controlled by layers like MAPIINSERT does.
