Can I control when a profile view updates like with corridors?

Is it possible to set a profile view to update manually like we can do with corridors? ie. I can make a few alignment changes and then update the profile view rather than the profile view updating each time an is moved/added/deleted.

I know I can use drefs to separate the plan and profile to achieve this, which I do often, but this is often not the way the client wants civil 3d drawings to be delivered. For smaller projects it would also be useful to be able to do this in the same drawing like we can do with corridors, which would save a lot of processing time waiting for the profile to update when there are multiple changes to be made.

Hi @Anonymous,

No, there is not a way to make a Profile View 'rebuild' manually. This has been in the root functionality of Civil 3D since it debuted. However, with that said, a Profile View is just a view... if you have an existing profile in there, that's a separate object. You can just delete the profile view and add back once your edits are done... unless of course you've added a lot of labels, hatch, etc.

You must have a rather complicated Profile View as I have not had to wait much for it to update - but then again, in my work, I'm not editing alignments as frequent.

Dear Friend,

I can suggest you this. Do not know how efficient it is?.

Go to profile view properties---> stations----> select manual station range instead of automatic. Then the profile view will stick to that range.

Thanks

@stevenh0616,

Thanks for the quick response. I didn't think there was a way.

The profiles do have a fair amount of detail on them such as crossing pipe labels of services etc (and there are quite a lot of services!!). The problem with this particular drawing is that there is a proposed 50km Gas Pipeline being modelled as a pipe model. If I dref the alignment and the pipe model into another drawing to show the profile view separately then I can't edit the levels of the pipes in the profile. For design purposes therefore I need the pipe model and the profile view in the same drawing. And with a 50km alignment the delays when making alignment changes is significant. I am therefore very unproductive at the moment :o(

@Jeew-m,

Thanks for response. Unfortunately your suggestion doesn't help this particular problem. Though you may have given me an idea to reduce my problem somewhat.

If I dref the alignment and pipe model, services etc into a new drawing and show the full profile there for review only, and then reduce the size of my profile view in the design layout to just the section being worked on things may speed up a little. I would need to adjust the station range in the profile view a number of times a day as I bounce back and forth along the pipeline to make changes. But at least then when I am making the changes it should be much smoother. Hmmmm.

I like @Jeew-m's suggestion for this - and your solution as well will help to keep the alignment in a separate file from the Profile View. It's not ideal but it will help reduce it refreshing on adjustments to only when you sync it. I think that's a good work around.

I suppose there is always a workaround if there is no obvious solution.

Thank you to both of you for your help and very quick responses.
