C3D Exporting cogo points using custom format to .csv file

I'm trying to export some CoGo points using a custom point file format to a csv. One of the attributes from the CoGo points I would like to extract is the "Style" name the CoGo point uses. However, style does not seem to be in the drop down list of column name options. I've tried to trick the system by creating a 'User-Defined' column name, set to style & set as a string, however this just exports blank.

I've got exporting all the other useful information to work, and the points definitely have style information attached to them. Am I missing something?!

Thanks

The user defined property will show up under the properties pallet (ctrl+1) with what ever data it represents. If that shows blank then you aren't getting the data into the property. Not sure but, maybe a regen or updating the point grp will fill it?

The point style has not been made available to use natively as an output for a point file, as far as I can tell.

You will probably have to look into lisp or .net programming to have the style name copied to the custom field you have created or export the information you want directly.

When you creating that custom point file format try using the User Point File=> Select Column Name=><unused>=>NAME which will allow you to include "Style Name" in your custom format file. I hope this suggestion works.

Hi @BushW thanks for your comment. Unfortunately the Name field doesn't contain the style information, but a name for each point. They style information is contained in the Style field. When I select Name in the column drop down, I cant see an option to further pick Style Name...

Hello @Anonymous

Unfortunately, after looking this again, I realized the Name field does not a look at for a style name which I assumed. So, yes, you are correct each NAME field does look for some point name.

Another possible solution you could use Raw Description for the STYLE NAME but, that would require you input that information which. I hope this helps.

Hi there-

Not to step on Wendell's toes here, but I would like to offer a work-a-round option too for your consideration.

Couldn't you just select the "All Points" Point Group in the Prospector in the source dwg with the points and review the point summary list in lower pane of the Prospector?  There you can right click on the column headers and only turn on Point #, Northing, Easting, Elevation, Description, and Style.

Next you select the first point in the list and go to end of list (while holding shift key) and pick last point.

Next right click on highlighted points and select Copy to clipboard:

Finally open excel and paste values:

Then you can save this point file as a csv and use the User Defined Property Classification you mentioned earlier called Style.

And then create a custom point file format that adds that Style UDP as the 6th column to the point file format:

This workflow should be pretty quick as you said all the points you have in the source drawing have styles assigned.

I hope this helps.
