C3D 2019.2 Drawing Files Open EXTREMELY Slow

Anonymous

Trying to open a sheet file that does not have anything in it except for data short cuts and xref's.  The data short cuts and xref's were all created using C3D 2019 and it took 20:05 min to open the file.  I tested the same drawing file opening with C3D 2018 and it took 3:0 mins to open, took C3D 2019.0 2:20 mins to open. Right now I think my only option is to uninstall 2019.2 and reload from my original image, anyone have any other idea's.

The only thing I can think of is there may be a difference in the paths set in 2019. Is it pathed to a server that 2018 isn't?

No all the paths are set the same.  I uninstalled 2019.2 and reinstalled from my image which has no updates and it opened the same file in 3 min.

I am thinking it has something to do with data short cuts, my model files that do not have anything data short cutted in do not have any problems opening.  They have a few xref's but not short cuts in.

is anyone else having problems with C3D 2019 performance?  It so slow opening drawing that i went back to 2018 to finish my last project, now on to new project and it works fine on files like my model and layout drawing but when i go to setup sheets that have C3D objects data shortcuted into them it takes an extremely long time to open. So this is what I did, started a new project and did all the design in C3D 2019 then created data shortcuts from my model file for this project. Started a new drawing and xref'ed the layout in then brought all my data shortcuts in that i need. Saved the file and got out of C3D.  Reopened C3D and tried to open the file i just started, it took over 40 min. to open. Ran an audit on the file, no errors so i saved the file and then did a saveas of the same file.  in the save as drawing i deleted all the data shortcuts and save the file again and got out of C3D.  Open C3D again and tried to open the file that I had just deleted all the data short cut from, it opened that file in 2:36. So to do some more testing i open C3D 2018 and opened the original drawing with data shortcuts and all in it and it opened in 2:21. While still in C3D 2018 i opened the file with no data shortcut and it opened in 1:15. These drawing are all on a network server and i did not change the location of any of the files while doing these test.  I know from the test that it is related to data shortcuts i just don't know what to do to fix it, I also tried this from another machine in this office with the same results, HELP AUTODESK!!!  I get the stupid  "Autodesk Vehicle Tracking error" now when i open any of these files in C3D 2018 so its a real pain to go back to 2018, can't use things like sheet set publish to plotter with out babysitting it the whole time because you have to OK past the Vehicle Tracking error. I'm stuck on what to do.

Did you ever find a solution to this issue?  We have the same problem with drawings opening slowly.  After some time and the drawing opens we noticed the data shortcuts project folder is referencing another project folder.  If we change to the correct project folder and save, close and reopen it is a lot faster.   Not sure what is causing the data shortcut folder to change to another project data folder.  If we can figure that out I think our problem would be solved.

I have not noticed the folder change to another project, but I will check. I have tied it to the alignment data shorts though, if I remove all the alignment short cuts they open fine. Autodesk is telling me they think it tied to the surface mns file, but I have not had a chance to talk to my support guy about it yet.

Thanks
Terry

Try associating the project to the current drawing.  For some reason this seems to get broken along the way.

I don't know about the folder changing. But the 2019.3 update has improved things for me.

Hi Allen,
So I installed the .3 update for 2019 and gave it a try opening one of my drawings, it took it 20 min. to open, same drawing opens in less than 2 min in 2018. Thank you for the suggestion but it did not solve the problem I'm having with 2019 and 2020.

Thank you
Terry

I have been fighting this for a while now. Tried moving from 2018 to 2020 and had to cancel the company moving because of it. i just installed 2021 and tested with the same results. 2018 files open fine, while the same file on 2020/2021 takes  much longer to open.

I'm having no problem with 2021. Have you upgraded your drawings by inserting them into a new drawing from a 2021 Template?

Have you edited your Support File Search Path? Often a drawing will open slowly when the program is searching multiple paths for support files.

I am still have the same problem in 2021. These are drawing started in 2021 from a template and never even opened in any other version.  It is just my sheet files that do this, my model files opens in a couple of min. where the sheet file with nothing in them but xref's and data short cuts can take 20 min. to open

I tried moving the drawing file local and it made no difference.  We have now moved everything from a local server to Egnyte cloud and they are still the same.  Some times they are faster from the cloud than they were from the local server.

I'm at a loss. Here are a few links I found on the subject.

They're all a bit general. I don't know if any of it will apply to your case.

I did alot of testing, worked with Autodesk via screen share, email etc. with no answer. The issue seems to have appeared in the 2018.3 patch and has not changed yet. I installed that patch when it was available on 5 machines and within two days I had taken them all back off due to the insane speed decrease reported from all of the users.

We work on many projects in the same large development so we have lots of Dref's and Xref's. The issue is with the communication between the software and the server. When i took all of the files for a project off of the server, upgraded them all to the new version and disconnected from the server, it worked better.

Support file paths are default in both 2018 and 2020/21.
