Best CPU for Civil 3d

I want to know that wich will be a better choice for cpu For running Autodesk products mainly civil 3d. An i7 with higher clock speed or a Xeon with less clock speed. As I have an option for hexa core 2.4 Ghz  x 2 in a veru chep rate, Should i go for it  or Try for and I7-6700 or I7-4770 Machine.

With all the testing we've done here at FDOT, for best C3D performance, the faster single core speed the better the testing results. This may not hold true for other applications but it has been consistant for C3D performance with our testing. SSD harddrive & more memory also help quite abit.

Xeon 2.4 with Primary SSD Drive,  32GB ram and a Quadro Card will do.

Please Suggest, As curently I have i5-4570S with 20 GB Ram and intel onborad graphics, and it lags alot on every file and crashed once or twice while genrating PDFs.

When you say lag and crashing, is this because your putting all your eggs in one basket so to speak. Are you xrefing and drefing objects in the draing based on best practices, or is everything in one drawing.

i7 is probably the best and least costly solution over the zeon. While a Quadro card is the best solution, I use a GTX960 with 4gb with no issue, but I'm not doing 3d orbits or renderings and I'm only runing on 16gb of ram under Win10

Get a video card for your current system, and disable the on-board card. You should be fine.

I agree w/ the faster clock speed and I don't think xeons are worth the money for C3D.

We are currently (2021) running in our office computers with i7s 7700k, 8700k, 9700k, an i9 9900k, and two AMDs 3950x.

I am not a computer expert, but I would highly recommend to anyone running civil 3d to try the AMD 3950x. I could not tell you if it is faster than the 9700k or the 9900k, but it does not crash.

In my specific case, I went from crashing once or multiple times a day while doing: grading, working with feature lines, and using the undo command; to crash once every 3 months, and usually on files that are not ours. As an example, I can undo as much as needed without crashing.

My 3950x is reusing the same SSD, ram, and video card from the previous i7 that crashed constantly.

AMD has come back with a vengeance, while I'm long a time Intel fan I've read the specs, but there are some points that still push Intel ahead. Honestly the processor doesn't not matter short of the speed, I've heard 2022 has some multi-core capabilities, that's the real key, and this is a guy who used a 286 with a math co-processor in the early days of Autocad, and has built multiple PC's. Get the best GHZ processor you can afford, along with RAM (again more is always better, and the speed/type of that also matters), a must is SSD (I'm going to 2tb very soon). Graphics right now are a crap show, video cards are priced like a PC as of late, so I'm going to be holding off my next build until the cryptos chill out.
