Basic question about layers for surfaces

Hello,

I have configured my surface label styles so that the labels are on the layers I want.  However, if I open the properties panel it shows as a different layer.  This is true for many features related to surfaces and is behavior I've never understood well.  I'd like the layer in the properties panel to be the same as the layer from the label style, rather than the default "C-TOPO-TEXT-[surface]" layer.  Is this possible?

Thanks!

Think of Civil 3D objects like blocks. There is an Object Layer, that the object itself resides on, and that you see in PROPS. And then the components of that object, such as contours, triangles, etc. on a Surface, can also reside on other layers. This concept applied to almost? all C3D objects.

Run the command ._EDITDRAWINGSETTINGS and then click on the Object Layers tab. This is where you control the top level layer for the object types.

Sure, most likely the C-TOPO-TEXT-SURFACE layer is created by your Object Layers of you Template. On the settings tab in the TOOLSPACE select your drawing and Right-Click the name then go the Drawing Settings. You see that there is a TIN layer and TIN label text Layer.
