Back button on mouse

I just installed 2020. Each time I install a new version I hope that this time, maybe this time, they've added the basic functionality that every single other windows based program has where, when navigating explorer, if you click back on your mouse it navigates back a level.

I think he means, if you are using a mouse that has the thumb buttons for forward and back, in windows, in a file explorer window, if you open a folder, then open a sub folder, then click the back thumb button, it will take you up one level to the previous folder you were viewing.

Like this: you are in 

C:\Users\Username\Documents\

You click to go into 

C:\Users\Username\Documents\Projects\

Then you hit the thumb back button and it takes you back to 

C:\Users\Username\Documents\

But in AutoCAD, if you are in a file dialog box, like say, open file, or save file or something, that thumb button doesn't do anything, but basically any other windows program, it would.

Hi,

Like every single other windows program (or web browser for that matter), if you are browsing the file system you can press the back button on your mouse and it will take you back one step through the explorer navigation. It is the equivalent of this button in the Civil 3d open panel.

It’s a small thing but just very annoying, especially as it is such ingrained Windows behaviour and it has been like this forever.

Yep, exactly that.

I think that's because AutoDesk doesn't use the Windows common dialog boxes API, and instead uses their own code to bring up their file dialog boxes.  Although yeah, even so they could write in the ability to see those mouse buttons.

ALT+1 is the equivalent of Back in the AutoCAD explorer window. If you have a programmable mouse and a free button or gesture. You could program it for ALT+1 and use that.

Yep thanks, no I get there are work arounds. I just keep hoping one day there wont need to be 🙂
