Automatically select the top object?

Coles notes: I draw a short line along the centerline of a pipe, I want to EXTEND (this applies to any command) this line to another object. I type EXTEND, but when I go to click on the short line, the multiple items icon pops up, and I must click on that short line twice in order for it to be chosen.

If the line I want to extend is out in space alone, I only need to click it once.

Is there a way to set the selection to automatically select the top object? Similar to how choosing objects in Autocad Map works.

I don't have that popup menu turned on that shows the two objects that are overlapping because it takes up too much time to load, then select the line.

In Map I can smash through commands and never have to double to check if the command has actually worked. Not so in C3D. I find myself having to do the commands multiple times, all day long, just to make sure the command has been invoked and actually worked. I've been working in Map for 19 years.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi @thomas_anderson,

You can use Selection Cycling to pick items that are on top of each other. Use the tab on the bottom right to switch it on, when you then select lines that have multiple objects behind them, you'll get a drop down of which object to pick.

SelectionCycling 0 or 1. or Ctrl+W to turn off selection cycling. The Top object will be selected automatically, without that dialog appearing.

I like SelectionCycling = 1 because it still shows the glyph but picks the top objects.

Very nice! Thank you both. I turned SELECTIONCYCLING to 0 and it was exactly what I wanted. I turned it to 0 a few weeks ago and it didn't allow me to select individual band objects in the profile view so I switched it back to 1. But now it's working so I'll have to take it.

Thanks again.
