Automatic Line Striping detection from Aerials.

We're looking into using automated line layout on new pavement. We would be replacing what existed before the road was repaved. Most potential systems will accept the layout in DXF or CSV.

We have aerials of the whole County. I was wondering if there was a way to detect the striping without paying an outside firm to do that.

I know that Raster design will do line following. But that only works on bitonal images. When I change the aerial to bitonal.Non of the striping shows.

I think ReCap can do it. But the Aerial Lidar isn't tight enough.

InfraWorks has line following if you have a point cloud. It won't follow linework from a photo.

Yeah. That's the thing. ReCap would work with a point cloud too. But those would have to be collected. With 170± miles of road. That would be an undertaking. However we only a pave about 15 roads a year (it can vary quite a bit). So that might be doable.

We use Eagleview for the Aerials. They already collect building, road, driveways, pools, etc. from the Aerials. We might get a quote form them for them to extract the pavement markings.
