Hi, everyone,
I installed the 2024 tool, but when I try to do the transform, seems like the coordinates updated to the target one, but the contents in the drawing still at the same locations, didn't updated at all. Anyone tried this and success?
thanks a lot!
Jerrie
Hi Jerrie,
Can you post your drawing and what coordinate system you'd like to transform to?

Hi, Dave,
Thanks, I am kind of just trying out this command. I attached the sample drawing here, it is in CSRS.2010(NAD83.2010) Nova Scotia, Zone 5, you can see in the settings. I want to transform to UTM 83, zone 20.
I can use the mapwspane to convert it. (but can't convert civil 3d elements).
I thought this is better according to the Autodesk menu.
To transform Civil 3D objects in a DWG:
Download latest version of the Coordinates Transformation Tool 2023 (or 2022.0.1).
Drawing Transformations and double-click Coordinate System Transformation.
let me know if you get any luck. thanks
Hi Jerrie,
Thanks for posting your drawing.
You got farther than me. I got a Fatal Error.
I'll try updating my C3D 2024 and see if that helps. I'll also update and then check with 2023. (I've been remiss in updating both versions on my laptop.)

Jerrie,
I just updated both C3D 2023 and 2024. I added one COGO Point to your drawing and tried transforming to EPSG:2961(CSRS.UTM-20N). I got a fatal error in both 2023 and 2024.

Jerrie,
Without adding a COGO Point the Transform Tool will transform the linework in 2023, but with 2024 I still get the fatal error.
I forgot to look at the coordinates, like you mentioned in your first post.

Thanks, Dave.
I tried many time, didn't work well.
same as you got, even transform the linework, but not in the right location.
this is screenshot from your last image, you can see, the coordinate system is in UTM, but the coordinates themself are still from the previous system.
pretty disappointed, this will be a great feature if works well in civil 3d.
Jerrie
Jerrie,
"pretty disappointed, this will be a great feature if works well in civil 3d."
I agree. And I've actually gotten it to work several times when it first came out in 2022. I haven't used it since, until now. I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the CSRS Datum.

Thanks, Dave, I will try some different coordinate system with different zone and see if that help.
Jerrie
Hi, Dave,
you are right, I tried different system, it works. see below.
just not sure why that particular one not working.
thanks for all your time, Dave!
Cheers,

Hi Jerrie,
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve the Coordinates Transformation Tool in Civil 3D 2024.
Special thanks to Dave for taking the time to research this issue.
I'll also be conducting some research on this matter to see if I can reproduce the issue. If I'm able to replicate it, I'll be sure to report it to our development team. I'll keep you updated on any progress.
Thanks again for your contribution to the community!
Thank a lot, Wendy!
we look forward to hearing back from you soon!
Regards,
Jerrie
Jerrie,
Autodesk doesn't add the Canadian GSB files to MAPCSLIBRARY. You have to do it yourself. Have you added these? >>>Link<<< (You need to create a free account)
Gut feeling tells me it's the CSRS 2010 definition that's messing things up, but I'm not sure exactly which files to add where.

Jerrie,
Bear in mind that I consider myself a student of coordinate systems, and a not-very-bright one at that. 😁
MAPCSLIBRARY has most Datums defined, but a Geodetic Transformation is necessary to relate to other Datums.
Every Geodetic Transformation defines a Source Datum and Target Datum, and is accomplished by one of these 3: Analytical Formula Transformation, Grid Data File(GSB) Interpolation, or Multiple Regression Transformation. Mostly these days it's a GSB file in NTv2 format. Without one of these methods it's a null transformation.
In MAPCSLIBRARY view the CSRS_to_CSRS.2010 Geodetic Transformation. Go to Grid Data File Interpolation(the only one not greyed out) and notice that it's empty. And then drill down in Windows C:\Program Data\Autodesk\Geospatial Coordinate Systems 14.10\Canada. It's empty except for a ReadMe textfile. I attached it. Please read it.
It may just be that Autodesk handles these "under the hood", but it would sure be nice if they'd do some 'splainin' about Geodetic Transformations.

Hi, Dave,
same here, I have to do a bit study to understands the knowledge behind this😀
But I still think the software has the ability to do the transform at some point.
As I mentioned at my first post, I can transform it with MAPWSPACE, works totally fine,
but it is only for 2d elements, and also need a few more steps. I will keep digging😀
thanks!
Jerrie,
That is baffling why Attach/Query works and the Transformation Tool doesn't. Dumb AutoCAD linework OK, Civil objects no. But there has always been a disconnect between Map and Civil 3D.
Definitely calls for a Support Ticket with Autodesk.

Totally agree, Dave! thanks
Wendy is looking into this, hopefully she will have some good news for us soon.

Hi Jerrie, Dave,
I wanted to provide you with an update regarding the issue you reported related to the Coordinate System Transformation 2024 tool.
I've been able to successfully reproduce the issue on our end and have since submitted a detailed problem report to our development team. Your input and information were invaluable in helping us identify and document the problem accurately.
Additionally, it has come to my attention that manually typing in the coordinate system for transformation can lead to Civil 3D crashing, unless one selects from the available dropdown selections. This is an important observation, and I've included this in the problem report as well.
Thank you again to both you and Dave for providing us with all of this critical information. Your contributions are instrumental in ensuring that our development team can address these issues effectively.
We will keep you updated on the progress and any resolutions as we work to resolve these challenges. If you have any further questions or encounter any additional issues, please don't hesitate to reach out. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
