Autocad Crashes when exploding a block that contains a topo

I recently was switched into Civil 3d 2016 and I am not able to retrieve some contours from a block. I was able to do it with Civil 3d 2013 before by exploding the block. Right now, If I do that on Civil 3d 2016, the program freezes.  I have no idea what to do to solve the problem. I will appreciate any help regarding this.

If I insert a tutorial surface dwg as a block and explode it, I'm able to rebuild the surface & Extract Contours from Surface without a crash using C3D 2016 SP2.

C3D 2018.1
C3D 2016 SP4

Have you tried with different files? I've never had this problem before.

A quick work around, I guess, would be to copy the contours from inside the block editor and paste them in the model space.
