Alignment curves add PI

Hi,

So I have taken over a model that someone else has created. In it there is an alignment made entirely out of curves.

I need to add an element (another curve) between the curves but the program will not allow me to "Add PI" or "Break apart PI".

Am I missing something?

Hi @Ingrid91, a few screenshots or a sample file could help to understand the alignment configuration. Could you please share more information?

Regards!

Hi @Ingrid91

If you want to add a curve no need to add PI.

Select your alignment and then click on geometry editor

On the geometry editor, you have several ways to add curves.

Sounds like you have a reverse curve.  You need to create an alignment from the existing alignment leaving out a section where the two meet.  Then you can manually add in a line and PI info.   In the image below I have the original alignment on the left and the one I created from it moved over to the right.  As you can see, I left out the section where they meet. To accomplish this, I followed these steps:

Create a new alignment from the existing alignment, specifying the start and end points of the portion you want to isolate.

  • Go to "Alignment" > "Create Alignment from Existing Alignment".
  • Select the alignment you want to use as a starting point.
  • Select the start and end split points and hit "F" (Finish).
  • Name your new alignment.

This is the closest to a solution that would work, based off of my problem.

It is strange though, that it should be difficult to add elements in an existing alignment without having to create a whole other alignment or delete an element...

It's because reverse curves are not easy to deal with.  I know it's a long workaround solution, but that's all I can think of at the time.
