AEC= Architectural base objects
AECC = Civil base objects, many of which derive from AEC objects.

I would think that if you opened up a civil drawing with vanilla AutoCad you could tell quite quickly.  Just select a few objects and note what Properties Dialog box "says".

They are all custom objects created by Autodesk for those respective disciplines. Here's a link to the latest (C3D 2012) COM API which includes most AECC objects (some have been added after C3D 2012):

http://docs.autodesk.com/CIV3D/2012/ENU/API_Reference_Guide/com/civil_om.htm

As for the AEC objects, you'd have to look at the Architectural API.
