Adding New Segments to an Alignment Without Affecting The Profile and Corridor.

I have created an alignment, a profile from the alignment, and a corridor form the alignment and profile. The issue I am having right now is that I have to extend the alignment at the start and I am wondering if there is a way to lock the profile and corridor in place. When I start adding PIs and additional segments to the alignment, everything else shifts on me.

Thanks!!

my solution is 'old school"

that is draw a pline from the new start point along the alignment and end at the current starting station.

then list the pline for it's length

subtract the length from the origial starting station and have your new starting station

adjust the alignment and go into the properties and reset the start station to the "new starting station" and regen

and your old profile and labels should be the same. (if you did things right)

best of luck

I think the solution form nonbeard13 is safer but here is an alternative:

Corridors and profiles can be lock by geometry so In theory modifying the alignment will not affect the corridor or profile. This might be a faster workflow. See attach.

I am not quite sure of how the profile locking to alignment geometry points option works. I selected that option and then proceeded to add new segments to the beginning of the alignment, but then I get warning symbols at the end of the profile telling me that those profile entities have been affected. Autodesk knowledge network states that each "profile geometry point is lock to the previous alignment geometry point" when you select this option https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-civil-3d/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2017/....

When you choose the lock profile to alignment geometry point option, does your PVI locks on to the PI of the nearest curve upstream of it?

Thanks for your reply!

I found a good explanation of how profile locking in Civil 3D works :).

I was able to do what OP was attempting by anchoring the profile to the beginning of the alignment, moving the beginning of the alignment to where I needed it, and then setting the profile back to the original settings in the profile locking tab. I hope this helps!
