Adding a profile to a pressure network to represent the pipe invert levels in a profile view

I am at the moment working on a small section of pressure pipe. I used the Create Pressure Pipe Network from Object command to create a pressure network in the plan view. I then create a Profile View using the Pipe Run Profile command in the Pressure Network Plan Layout contextural ribbon. Following this method I was able to produce a Profile View displaying my pressure pipe network. In this profile view I am able to adjust/override the pipe elevations using the profile that civil3d created during the process. However, I need to be able to extract the pipe invert levels and display them in a Data Band. The profile that was created by Civil3d sits on the top (crown) of the pipe. I am able to copy this profile and set it down by the diameter of the pressure pipe to produce an Invert Profile. Then I can use this new (copied) profile to give me invert data for my Pipe Invert data band. However, using this method the invert profile is NOT associated to the Pressure Pipe or its Profile. This means that it does not update automatically when I make further elevation adjustments to my pressure pipe. Is there a correct way to produce a second profile that is dynamically linked to the first profile in a Pressure Pipe Network?

Start Invert Elevation and End Invert Elevation are standard properties available within the Band style.

a VERY roundabout method:  You can use your Pipe Run alignment & profile to create a "flat" Corridor and then a Corridor Surface.  From there, create a new surface, Paste you corridor surface & lower it by your pipe diameter. 

There's a few steps to it, but if you're looking for a way to vertically offset a profile and keep it dynamic, this should save a little time in the long run.

Thank you. But I think you may have misunderstood my actual problem. When I created the pressure pipe network, I use a polyline that was nest copied from an Xref. (No problem there). Then I selected this network and the "Pressure Pipe Plan Layout" contextural ribbon opens. In here, there is a command call "Pipe Run Profile". This command is used to create a "Profile View" which will contain the surface and the pipe run in the vertical plane. (All good so far). When you select the pipe run in the profile view you will see that Civil3d has created a profile that runs along the top of the pipe. This profile has grips and can be used to adjust the pipe vertices in the vertical plane. This is very handy and a great feature. I could also use this profile to extract pipe elevations at each of the chainage points. And this can be displayed in a "Data Band".

However, this would give me elevations to the top of the pipe (crown) and I want to have elevations to the bottom of the pipe (invert) at each chainage point. My work-around at present is to copy this profile and move it down by the same distance as the pipe diameter. Then I use this new profile to give me elevations at the invert levels. However, this second new profile is NOT associated with the pipe in the same way that the crown profile is. If I were to re-adjust the pipe elevations again, the profile for the pipe invert does not adjust with it. This means that I need to discard the present invert profile and create a new one in the same manner as before. I understand that Civil3d has the capability to offset the crown profile to create a second dynamically linked profile. But so far, I have not discovered it.

No es necesario crear un nuevo perfil desplazado (que pierde la asociación). La solución más técnica es usar bandas de datos o etiquetas configuradas para mostrar la inversión de la tubería, ya que estas sí se vinculan dinámicamente a la red y se actualizan al modificar geometría o diámetros.

 

En lugar de crear un perfil separado para la inversión, puedes configurar una banda de datos en el perfil existente para que muestre la elevación de Invert Level (inversión).

Civil 3D permite etiquetar tanto la crown (top) como la invert elevation en las bandas de perfil, sin necesidad de un perfil adicional.

This is how pressure networks are designed to work.  I think what you are looking for is a way to link to profiles together.  I dont think that is possible.   However there may be alternatives, such as what has been suggested.   Do you have a screenshot of what you are trying to accomplish, or perhaps a mockup drawing that you can share?  It might be easier to develop an alternative that has an acceptable amount of "rework" to accomplish what you want.   An issue with the corridor method mentioned is that you're going to get elevation points everywhere the corridor has a frequency point, which may not be desired.   

Have you heard of Sincpac (Quux Software)?  There is a tool within that collection that allows you to Dynamically Link Profiles, it does have an option to link the entire profile, so in theory, you could use this to keep the two together.

Thanks for your reply. I have given this quite a bit of researce only to find out that Civil3d does not have the capabilty to provide what I'm looking for. This is very disappointing, as what it is that I require, is fundamental to engineering pipe design. I have Clients, Contractors and Engineers all asking for specific information about centre lines, Inverts and Crown levels. And all of them quite pedantic as to how the information should be presented in the Profile View (or Long Section as it is known in New Zealand). At the moment, I am simply copying the Civil3d created profile down by the required amount to provide the information that I need. I do this after I have made all my elevation edits. If I subsequently need to make more edits, I simply erase the copied profile and repeat the process. This way works satisfactorily, so I'm not too bothered. It just would be a "nice to have" capability within Civil3d.

I also am after a solution to this issue for a "Pipe Invert Level "Band Style that follows the Pipe Invert of the Pressure Pipe.

I need a dynamic solution that updates the Pipe Invert Level whenever the PP Profile changes.
The documentation standards in Australia (& New Zealand) require Pipe Invert Level & Depth to Invert Band Styles (refer attached screenshot) & encourage Autodesk Development Team to seriously consider adding this functionality.

Thank you to all the people that have replied. Especially those from Australia and New Zealand.
You all understand just how much an upgrade by Autodesk to Civil3d would make PP design life easier.
I do intend to put in a request in this matter a little later. At the moment I'm a bit slammed time-wise.
However, the work around that I described earlier does work quite well. So, there is that for now.
And I in turn would like to encourage others finding this issue, to also put in a request for an upgrade

There is an option when you copy a profile to make it overwrite an existing profile. This is a semi-dynamic way to get what you want and it doesn't take very long to do. After you create the copy, just lower it again to what your depth needs to be and the profile bands will update since it's the same profile.
