2020 - Expressions disappeared

Just opened a drawing to find that all of my Profile>Label>Horizontal Geometry Point>Expressions have all disappeared. We've utilized these for years with no issues. I was able to get a backup copy of the file but I cannot drag and drop or import expressions from another file.

@DBreisch,

Not sure whats the reason behind this may be need to install the latest updates available for civil 3d 2020 and this fixes automatically.

What i can suggest you is instead of importing styles using command (IMPORTSTYLESANDSETTINGS) or through manage tab<<Styles Row, use reference template (command:ATTACHREFERENCETEMPLATE) method may be works for you.

Or else Enter Command LAYOUT and choose TEMPLATE option and choose your desired template or drawing file you want see the style, settings, expressions and etc.

Some time Reference template, drag and drop, import styles and setting dosnt function properly and i follow this LAYOUT method and it works good.

Some one had a similar issue and this post may helps you.

If this doesn't fix your issue feel free to share the file so that can check and find the resolution.

Based on the AutoDesk Desktop App, my 2020 is up to date with patches/hotfixes.  I'll look into the attached templates for other possible uses, however, these expressions are project specific. I do not wish to create a template for a project just to reference it back to my production drawing. There's no point in me sharing my file. The expressions are simply gone, hence, the associated labels are now displaying broken references. This is a bug that needs fixing. My user created expressions should not randomly disappear from a drawing.

Thank you, I do appreciate the feedback.

Hi @DBreisch, this issue sounds a lot like the one described in this article. The development team has reported this issue as fixed in 2020.1 so check to make sure you have that as it was recently released. You still may need to overwrite styles from an unaffected drawing once though as described in the article.

All the best,
Winston

My concern here is that I keep my software up to date via the desktop app and the latest patch/update was applied and I still experienced the disappearing expressions.

The update probably won't replace the missing expressions; the styles have already been overwritten unfortunately. You can copy those styles over from a working drawing. If you are noticing that expressions are still being deleted when opening in 2020.1, let me know and I will pass that along to the development team.

All the best,
Winston

I do believe this happened while 2020.1 was applied. I'll certainly reply back if this continues. Thanks.

I had this issue on one project drawings which I received from my client. I was not able to import those normal labels and expressions based labels. I tried traditional ways to get al those expression based labels in to plan and profiles.

Traditional ways:

1. Importing styles and labels using command IMPORTSTYLESANDSETTINGS or through manage tab.

2. Drag and drop through tool space to tool space or from tool space to drawing file.

But I was able to import those expressions based labels using command LAYOUT and choosing Template option to import styles and settings. Template may be .dwt or .dwg file.

this can be done right clicking on model or layout option and choose option From Template option.

This fixed my issue and I was able to see all broken labels and expressions properly.

it seems to happen when someone opens a c3d drawing with expressions with plain autocad. it happened to me yesterday.

Pretty Sure I have found the cause behind this....

Do any of you use the Regapp ID Cleanup Utility? When I run this on my Sheet files, it deletes all my expressions, styles, parts lists...etc.

I made a pose about it here...

Strange that this thread was just replied to in the fact that just moments ago a user in my office had all of his profile expressions removed upon opening a drawing. I verified he is on Civil 3d 2020.1 update.

Sorry, we do not use Regapp ID Cleanup Utility - I'm not familiar with this.
