Civil 3D 2015 MAPINSERTPLE command

can anyone help me with the subjected command? MAPINSERTPLE command can insert north arrow block or scale bar block onto paper space, and associate the block with the viewport, but it can't pre-define the layer for the block goes to. and I would like to add this function onto my tool pallete, but I just can't figure out how to use the command on the command line. No help information in the help file or Autodesk website. enclosed screenshot shows the parameters i have tried, none of them works.

Thanks.

Have you tried using the change command after the block is inserted? You could use the Last selection option to pick the block, and then change its properties, such as layer that way.

Does the block that you are using have this?

yes.

just discovered some issue with the dynamic north arrow in C3D 2015 when we were testing upgrade to C3D 2018, the dynamic north arrow causes the associated VP to be reset to 0,0,0 randomly (sometime happens, sometime doesn't, so far 50/50 chance based on my test) when the 2015 version production drawing got opened in 2018 version. I am not sure why, and I haven't got the chance to do further investigation.

So I've arrived here two years late, but attempting to undertake the same end game of adding the command to the ribbon. I would seem there are 3 variables required to invoke the command, the type is required, for north point it is 2.

I have managed to make it select the viewport however, it won't prompt for the coordinates of the north point block, it just exits. It feels like the built in version is doing more in the background, however without knowing what additional information it's requiring/calling it's hard to make it work. As others have said, there is no help on this matter anywhere.

after using this function for about a year, we decided to ditch this function, because it randomly resets the associated viewport back to 0,0,0, and there is no easy way to recover it. we now use a lisp routine to rotate the north arrow block to match the viewport view rotation.

@Anonymous

I know I'm even later to this topic...

I too attempted to run -MAPINSERTPLE at the command line and ran into the same situation you did; I was prompted to select the viewport and once I selected the viewport nothing happened, no prompt to pick a point to insert the block. Just nothing.

I was able to resolve that.

In my initial attempt(s), the name of the drawing file I entered did not include the .dwg extension. Once I added .dwg to the file name, it worked.

So the required input (file name,block name,type) in my test solution looked like this:

K:\MYRESOURCEFOLDER\BU\LDBU\2019\MyNorthArrows\MyNorth_Arrows.dwg,MYNARROW,2

For the record, here are the 3 "types":

2 = North Arrow
3 = Scale Bar
4 = Legend

(The "Select a viewport for the <type>:" command prompt changes based on which number you use.)

In autoLISP:

(command "-MAPINSERTPLE" "K://MYRESOURCEFOLDER//BU//LDBU//2019//MyNorthArrows//MyNorth_Arrows.dwg,MYNARROW,2")
