The Customization page may help more.

What do you want to do the the built in function doesn't provide?

hi @Joe-Bouza, thanks for the suggestion I published also in The Customization page.

Basically I want to be able to create pipe networks from gis shape files automatically, not going through the Import GIS data menu manually

That is not enough info. You need to state what data is attached to your GIS files, maybe post examples.

Pipe networks have structures at the nodes, so that raises questions.

Your request is exactly the same as saying "pipe networks from alignment/profiles", or various other formats.

Have you worked with pipe networks before though?

They try to be rule-based, so making them means turning off everything that could dynamically change them.

They are a disaster IMO. Autodesk should have realized early on that everything civil's do is alignment based.

Alignments are not hub and spoke, the profile grade breaks can, but are not forced to occur at "ends" of pipe line/arc segments. They took a hydraulic modeling feature from Land Desktop and made a final design feature out of it, completely missing how things should work.

You need to state if you plan to use the pipe networks for plan and profile production, or water models, or what. That will affect things. If doing plan production, you really want alignments and profiles IMO.
