ARG Files - Civil 3D 2022

My CAD Admin and I are working on a deployment image for Civil 3D 2022. I have the image pointing to an ARG file on our network but the profile doesn't get loaded during the install. The ARG file is created from C3D 2021. Does it need to come from the same version? From the attached image, there should be another profile listed as XXXX_C3D_XXXX. Anyone have any thoughts?

An .ARG file is added to Registry, which is application-specific; at minimum, you'll need to do a Find & Replace for the [HKEY_* lines in a copy of the 2021 exported .ARG file.

Then import the resultant .ARG file (Profile) into 2022, adjust, and re-export from 2022 in order to include the correct .ARG in your deployment.

Or build the ARG fresh in 2022 and export it from there.

Given the OP says they're migrating from 2021, unless their environment has completely changed (network support files, drive letters, etc), I would recommend against starting from scratch in 2022, as that is otherwise an unnecessary duplication of work for the majority of the Profile that does remain same.

My $0.02... Please take from that what you like.

Cheers

Well, we tried building it from a fresh install of C3D and nada. The XML file shows the new ARG file for custom profiles. It is just not pulling it in. Gonna try a few other tricks.

Not sure which XML file exactly you're talking about, as I prefer to do the Profile-specific tasks after app install (just use the deployment to get the apps on the workstation, then customize).

Is the .ARG (Profile) being imported into Registry via deployment?

If so, then include the /p switch in the application icon, using the desired Profile's name.

If not, then include the /p switch in the application icon, using full file path to the .ARG file itself (only works once).

You probably already knew that, but just in case.
