Solar radiation. Diffuse and dirrect

Solar radiation. Diffuse and dirrect

Dear developper,

I wish CFD simulation can simulate both direct sunlight and diffusse radiation of sky dome, instead of direct radiation only. Just like in ansys fluent, it has 3 factor: direct, diffuse and ground reflected.

Idealy, If CFD simulation can provide manually input for these 3 value is very welcome.

For a room or a building CFD investigation, designer need to see how it works in a few hours or few days, so if CFD simulation can read epw file (weather data file for 8760h whole building simulation) and takes automatically out side temperature and direct, diffuse radiation value into the model, this is extremely usefull for both transient and steady analysis.

I'm using CFD 2016 for testing an office room, focus on glazing facade design.

Facade study for whole building need investigating both dirrect and diffuse radiation, but solar radiation setting in CFD 2016 is too simple, only building location and orientation, other factor is automatically calculated.

Some simulation of a simple room with glazing shows that CFD 2016 only simulate direct radiation but no diffuse ratiation at all. Is there any parameters for manually changing direct and diffuse radiation value in CFD 2016 ? Input value will come from weather data, epw file.

Thanks.

Re: Solar radiation

Hi,

At the moment this is not included. I am wondering if you could add a heat flux to the top surface of the domain to add a little more radiation to the model though - I have never tried this to see how well it works.

Feel free to add a request to our Idea Station.

Thanks,

Jon
