how to create an oil, gas, water material?

I'm trying to simulate a multiphase flow of oil, gas and seawater flowing through a pipe system (one inlet and one outlet). Only a single material can be applied to the geometry according to the help manual. How do I apply a material that represents the oil, gas and sea water composition I'm looking for?

I tried do this using the scalar option while editing a new material, but I have since learned that this only applies to two fluids that are being mixed from multiple inlets.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi @Anonymous,

As you have seen, it is not possible to simulate two fluid regions of different properties in contact with each other.

To replicate a 3 material mix you will have to make some assumptions about the final properties of the mix and input them into a custom material. Sadly this may not be what you are looking for.

Maybe someone else has a better idea!

All the best,

David

Ah ok. Thanks for your response.

I'll try creating a new material as you suggested, and assume certain properties based on the mass fraction of the fluids in the pipe. Hopefully that should give me an approximate answer.

If someone has a better solution then I would welcome the advice.

Thanks.
