heat exchanger simulation in autodesk simulation cfd

Screenshot_2.pngScreenshot_1.pngHi,

I am a newbie in cfd simulation. I am trying to simulate a shell and tube heat exchanger in autodesk simulation cfd 2015. I made a 3d body of the heat exchanger using autodesk inventor 2015. I am struggling to understand the interface for heat transfer and heat exchanger, dont know how to assign required heat transfer parameters for the heat exchanger.  Need help...

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

It is probably wise to start with a tutorial model. The tap one here might be a good starting point. The setup for yours will be similar but with two flow paths instead of one.

Is everything in Inventor modelled as a solid?

Thanks,

Jon

yes, everything was modelled as solid.

the problem is that in the result there is no variation of any parameters in the shell side.

Here heat is transfered from steam to steel tube then from steel tube to water. We dont know how to set this condition as input.

Thanks

Hi,

Any heat transfer would happen automatically. You just need to set the flow rate and temperatures to the inlets and set a P=0 to the outlets.

Turn on flow and heat transfer within Solve-> Physics.

This might be a little more complex if you are using steam though - start with just water and air to get it working OK and then let's get it set up with steam/steam quality etc.

Kind regards,

Jon
