CFD Animation Error

Hello,

I am running a simulat5ion on CFD and trying to animate it so I have a video of the results. However, whenever I do so, it only animates the first 100-900 iteration  and the last iteration of 28800 and ignores everything in between. Also, the iterations seem to be ordered fine for all of them expect for iterations 100-900 where it is backwards.

I attached an image of the animation window. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Thank you.

Hello,

I believe this is caused by digit grouping.  Numbers above 1000 are displayed as 1,000.  CFD is tripping on that and seeing it as less then 10.

Changing the digit grouping in Control Panel> Region> Additional Settings did not fix it no matter what symbol is used.  Even if Digit Grouping is set to not use any symbols (i.e. 123456789 and not 123,456,789) CFD is including a symbol anyway and tripping on it.

is there a way to get around this issue?

Taking screenshots degrades the quality of results and data is useless. I need the animated resluts.

Hello,

I'm not sure if there's a way around this but will be happy if someone here proves me wrong.

Hi @marwan_azzam,

I think Autodesk should get this fixed as this is quite an annoying issue. Could you report it to developers?

Thanks,

Martin M.

I don't have a fix but to animate a transient simulation you can leave the interface on during the solving process and record the screen with another program. Then crop and accelerate the resulting video so it is real time. It's a very dirty work around but it has worked well for me.

Tip: if you want a perfectly fluid animation, do not save intermediate time steps.

I came up with the following crutch, which partially solves this problem if you have less than 1000 frames.
1. install total commander
2. open the project folder in it
3. go to the "job\" folder
4. select files with the extension ".tn..n", where n..n is the number of the saved step4.png
5. press "ctrl + m"
5.1. sort by date
5.2. create an extension mask
5.3. click "execute"

6. open your project in cfd
7. animation

8. click "dynamic image". and save

after that it is correctly animated in the cfd viewer

I attempted this but unfortunately, it did not work for me. I ended up saving image by image for every hour. very inconvenient but got the job done.

This bug still exists, both in CFD 2021 and 2023. Also it does not only effect the animation, the bug is in every List or Table that has values > 1000. The conversion ToString includes a decimal grouping symbol, but the conversion from string to float does not recognize the grouping symbol and returns 0. This is EXTREMELY annoying and brakes so many features, it's hard to believe this was not fixed in years.

A few examples:

every time you want to change a table that was messed up like this you have to fix EVERY value
