Autodesk CFD coordinate axis change

Hi.

I'm making an intake plenum and my Y axis is what I want to be Z.

I've already tried to make a SCU system in inventor (Program I used to design the intake) but in CFD the axis remain the same.

1º) I'm worried about the effect of gravity. Is there any gravity active by default? If yes, It may modify my results, can I switch it off? (with Z going in the horizontal direction, the cylinder filling will be larger in one side than the other)

2º) If there's no gravity by default that won't modyfy mi intake beheavour but I'd like to know how to change the coordinate axis anyway

Hi,

There is no gravity on by default - this can be turned on within Solve -> Physics and can be set to any cartesian direction so I suspect you do not need to do any model rotation at all.

If you do wish to change the axes, the quickest way is to place the assembly into a higher assembly and reorient it. CFD will use the co-ordinate system of the highest assembly.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards,

Jon

I'm interested in this as well.

I've seen a couple posts mentioning that "placing the model in a higher assembly" will allow you to reorient it... but I wasn't able to find anything related to higher assemblies or reorienting models when searching in the forum. All I found were things relating to the ViewCube

Maybe I'm simply searching with the wrong keywords. If there's a tutorial or posting on this that someone could direct me to, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I think I wrote that 🙂

What I meant was, take your assembly in CAD and place it in a new (empty) assembly. Then you can align it to the coordinate system of the new assembly, which is the one that CFD will now use.

Does that make sense?
