Welcome to the Student Group Hub! If you are reading this, you must already be on the hub, its great to have you here! This blog is a written version of the live event that we hosted on the 14th January 2022. If you missed the call, you can watch the recording below:

In the call we covered:

  • A summary of the Student Group Hub in 2021
  • Some stats about the Autodesk Ambassador Hub transition (the old community that the SGH replaced)
  • What is to come in 2022 (including contests and badges)
  • A call for feedback on the community
  • An Open Mic session to discuss what we are all up to in our lives!

Introductions

Introductions made up the first few minutes. The team consists of @amanda.k@LeoWarren-EDU@o.briggs.

I will not repeat the full introductions here but if you want to get to know the Student Group Hub team, you can check out our post here.

2021 on the Student Group Hub & Autodesk Ambassador Hub Transition

The student group hub was launched in July 2021 and saw 415 members jump from the old Autodesk Ambassador Hub onto the new platform! This gave us a great kickstart to be able to hit the ground running with the Student Group Hub. We transitioned a lot of the content that could be found on the Ambassador Hub, with the popular “Share your best renders” thread looking awesome once again on the new forum! July saw our first live call, with both Ambassador Hub and Student Group Hub members, which has also been uploaded to YouTube and can be seen here.

The student group hub is very much a global community! We are distributed across the world in 24 countries (so far!). As Amanda pointed out in the call; with such a distributed community, there is almost always somebody online! In the 6 months the Student Group Hub has been active, it has had 26,192 views, 255 forum threads, 1541 replies and 3259 likes!

One of the most popular threads has been the “Share your Best Renders” thread where you have all shared renders that you have created of cars, houses, planes and more! If you haven’t checked out this thread it is well worth your time! You can find it here.

Looking ahead to 2022

Whilst 2021 was a great start for the hub, we have so much more planned, and we can’t wait to show you all! We gave a sneak peek to some of the features we will be releasing in 2022, starting with badges.

We released a couple of badges back in early December to those who were Diamond and Platinum members on the Ambassador Hub. Badges are a completely new feature that will soon be released to all Autodesk Community members and as such we are working hard to make sure that they are working as they should! As such, badges for gold, silver and bronze members of the Ambassador Hub will be released after we finalise the remaining development work, along with a whole host of exciting badges that we have put together for you all!

Another new feature coming to the community soon is contests! We have been working hard to prepare a ton of contests that we will be releasing this year! We are really excited to bring contests into the student group hub in a big way and know that you can’t wait for them (neither can we!). We are finalising the final developmental details for contests so keep an eye out on the community for our first contest to be released! Fake or Photo, The Worst Water Bottle, Transport of the Future, Holiday Specials and Sustainability challenges are just some of the contests that we have planned for you all!

Whilst a lot of what we have planned is for fun, a big part of the Student Group Hub is to help you prepare for life after graduation! As such, we have some amazing content in the pipeline to help you learn more about the various roles that exist at Autodesk! What does a community manager do? How did we get involved at Autodesk? Program Managers, Tech Support Managers, Developers, Hiring Managers, Interns and Graduates are just some of the people we have lined up to help give you an insight into what each role involves, helping you to think about what it is that you might want to do after graduation!

Feedback

As has been said, we have so many plans for the coming year and there is so much we cannot wait to share with you, but we also recognise that this is a community, and that the most important part of the community is you! As such, we would LOVE any feedback that you have about the Student Group Hub! We want to make sure that we focus on delivering the content and features that you all want! On the call, we asked three key questions:

  1. What have you really liked about the SGH?
  2. What would be a key area to improve on?
  3. What type of content would you like to see more of?

We welcome both positive and constructive feedback so that we can make sure that everything we do is aligned with what you all want. Whilst we have grown a lot, we would love to have more members in the SGH. Any ideas that you have about how we can get more members or ways that we can help others learn about the Student Group Hub would be invaluable to us! Feel free to comment any ideas you have on the community, or if you don’t want to share your ideas publicly you can directly message us at any time! (my profile is @o.briggs)

We ended the call with an Open Mic discussion. It was great to chat with all of you guys and we can’t wait to do it again! If you want to watch the open mic you will need to watch the video. The open mic section starts at 26:35 of the video. Again, you can find the video here.

Thank you to all those who joined us live, and to all of you who watched the recording and read this blog post afterwards! We can’t wait to see you all again soon on the next call and on the hub!
