Pathing issue with the Autodesk Desktop Connector

Anonymous

Hello Bud! I'm testing the Autodesk Desktop Connector for my Teams.

We have a dozen active projects and managing references is tedious. I still can't use ADC for mapping references within the BIM team projects. The path is mapped to my personal profile, and not the BIM360 path. So it won't work for other collaborators.

So what's the benefit of this utility - or it's just another Dropbox like sync app? Thanks!

Hello,

I wanted to pass along this link with some additional Revit specific details:

https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-AC1FE180-6B64-4DCF-9EFE-246313EDD798

To confirm, are you using Revit 2018.2?  That is the minimum supported version.

If you are using Revit 2018.2 and it is still not showing as a cloud link, would you be able to do a simple test?  Create a new file > and attempt to link a DWG via the Desktop Connector BIM 360 Team. If it fails (and shows a local path) please collect the Revit journal and either attach it here or directly message me.

Thank you.

Hello, I just setup a new file in Revit 2018.2 and try to link the dwg in my BIM 360 TEAM, it shows up something like this:

Hello,

And Desktop Connector is running and you are signed in? If that is the case and you are running Revit 2018.2, can you please attach a journal file (or message it to me) from after you attempt to link the DWG? Thanks.

Also specifically regarding the Help page:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-AC1FE180-6B64-4DCF-9EFE-246313EDD798

There is an issue you could run into with the current version of the Desktop Connector installer.  See the first item under the "Considerations and Known Issues" section regarding the required registry key, which if does not exist can be manually created.

Thanks for the journal.  This doesn't seem to be the same issue (the pathing issue manifests itself when you can add links seemingly normally but in Manage Links you notice they are treated as local versus cloud links).  Have you confirmed you do have the registry key from the Help link I shared?  And I assume Desktop Connector is running and you are signed in?

Also, does this happen for any DWG?  I'm curious if you are able to link other DWG's from BIM 360 Team without issue.  Please let me know, thanks!

We are using Revit 2016 with all the latest updates (and C4R V9 latest). The missing DWG links have become a standard issue now. Every time we open the model, we have to fix the links, unless, by coincidence, it was the same person that closed it last, and opened it first, then everything works. The issue here is the path. The connector is simply functioning like Dropbox. We link the DWGs from the path provided under (My Computer) - which references my windows profile, and it shouldn't, since that is personal to me, and that what causes the broken links for the other users. I attached two pictures below, but I know you're familiar with this issue now. Are we doing something wrong? is it 2016? BTW the connector crashes almost every time I log in. Is THAT the issue? Why does it crash?

Revit 2018.2 is required for Desktop Connector support.  Earlier releases are not supported.  Please see the page here for additional details:

In Revit 2018.2 for each supported link type refactoring was necessary to support cloud references. In some cases the required changes may not be possible to implement in previous releases of Revit. If there are specific versions of Revit that you would like to see this functionality I would recommend creating a Revit Ideas post. That way we could formally track the community support.

Thank you,

I can use cloud path with other common data files like keynotes or Uniformat files.

But it doesn't work with the shared parameter file. Is it on the roadmap?

Thanks

Correct, currently keynotes and assembly codes are supported for cloud pathing.  Shared Parameters are currently not supported for cloud pathing.  If you are able to create a Revit Ideas post for that item we could track the request for community support.

Thank you,

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure if this is a related issue.  In earlier tests, we were able to link point clouds directly into hosted Revit files directly from Team, eliminating the need to download and re-path at every machine.  Today we're experiencing a path = null issue in synchronizing data.

The point clouds were formerly linked from our local server.  We've started to migrate them to Team.  Now when using Reload from, Windows Event viewer indicates an issue with Desktop Connector, and Desktop Connector indicates an issue with the path value:

"Value cannot be null

parameter name: path"

In the same dialog, the path describes the hub, project and location of the file.

Any ideas / known issues or limitations?  Should we remove the link and then re-insert the link directly from Team?

Thank you!

Same issue as Chad here with

Autodesk Desktop Connector 5.1.0.614

Revit 2017.2

It worked fine with the former version of Autodesk Desktop Connector

I have the same issue on a computer when olinking dwg file. I could fixe it after noticed that the user opens the file from C/Users/...instead of My PC/BIM360Tean/Project/....But at the same time I faced another issue while opening dwg file from BIM360Team - error message (the picture and diagnostic lof are attached).

Hi, we are having similar issue with material mapping. We're on 2018.3.1 and same version of Desktop Connector. Only the creator of the material can see the texture in the rendering mode and every other machines had the same error even though they can browse to the material folder. Will there be a fix for this?

Revit 2018.3 supports RVT links, CAD links and TXT links (for keynotes and assembly codes) from Desktop Connector as cloud references. Material references are not supported at this time; there is an existing Revit Ideas post gathering support for this functionality should you wish to add your vote to:
