field drawings

I wasn't sure what forum to post this in. I have a PM that asked me about software that could be used to sketch a digital drawing in the field. essentially what they do on graph paper but just digitally. Any ideas are appreciated.

Hello john.swank2006,

Thank you for contacting Autodesk.

If they are looking to take existing drawings, share with other project members, and add markup, there are a few different applications that I could recommend. These would include BIM 360 Team, BIM 360 Docs, and even BIM 360 Field, depending on their needs and workflows.

Are they really looking to start a document from scratch and to do more than add markup, push pins, etc, to an existing drawing? Were they hoping to use this on a particular mobile platform, for instance iOS (iPads and iPhone), Android or Microsoft Surface?

Thanks,

Don

i did not mean to accept solution, dont know how to undo that. but yes they want a blank space that they can just draw a rough sketch digitally rather than on paper. on a tablet or laptop either one.

They are looking "for a blank space that they can just draw a rough sketch digitally rather than on paper." So they are not looking to create a detailed model or drawing like what can be done in AutoCAD or Revit. How do they intend to use the "rough sketch"? What are some of the use cases or workflows for which this would be used or could potentially?

The BIM 360 applications Team, Docs, and Field all have markup tools that allow you to add markup, comments, or even push pins to existing drawings. This is essentially an overlay on top of the document image. These tools would not currently give you the ability to create a free-form sketch independent of a document already uploaded into a project within the respective application.

Do you know if they are looking to use the kind of sketch feature mentioned in conjunction with any of the BIM 360 products or with any other Autodesk product?

Thanks,

Don

no they dont need the integration. so what they do is draw this rough sketch on a piece of paper with dimensions and give it to me then i design it in revit. they just want to do that digitally.

That additional information helps. I am not sure if Autodesk has a product that fits that exact need. I support the BIM 360 products. I am less familiar with Revit and graphics software. Two applications do come to mind, though these may be a bit more than they need. One is SketchBook and the other is TinkerCAD. I should mention that I have not actually used either program myself. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Don
