AutoCAD File not Uploading to BIM360 Team

On multiple occasions, I have tried to upload a 70MB AutoCAD File, containing multiple bound XREF's to a BIM360 Project within our Hub. Each time, it has failed.

I've been able to upload and retrieve Revit Files, smaller AutoCAD Files, Inventor Parts, and STP Files without issue, but this AutoCAD File has yet to upload.

take the cad files and associated xref's and place them on a folder on your server....then, from within bim360 team, choose "upload folder" and choose the root folder that has all the cad/xref files...let that upload and see if it takes.

if not, create the folder/subfolder structure on bim360 team first, then upload each file to their subfolders one at a time.

if that does not work, clean/purge your files prior to uploading.

I don't have an option to upload a Folder. However, all of the Bound XREF's have already been uploaded to BIM360 Team Project.

Locally, on my machine, I created a New Drawing File then pulled in the applicable XREF's. I then bound those XREF's to the new AutoCAD Drawing, Purged and Cleaned the Drawing, and saved the file.

When I tried to upload the New File with all of it's bindings, it appeared to upload successfully, then it started looking for discoverable's. I let in continue in the background for approximately one hour, and everything looked fine, until I went to look at it in the BIM360 Team Viewer. That's when I received the error.

Since I haven't been able to upload that Drawing file, I generated a PDF of the Layout and posted that to the BIM360 Team Project.

This is still an issue that needs to be addressed.

hi @Anonymous

Thank you for posting to the BIM 360 Team forums.  I'm sorry to see that you are having trouble uploading the .dwg files

  • Do you have a screenshot of what you see after the files has failed to process?
  • If you create a .dwg with a single XREF, does the file upload to BIM 360 Team?

The issue may be occurring with the XREFs and how it is being translated within BIM 360 Team.  If needed, would it be possible to share the .dwg file that is failing so that I can test on my end.

Let us know if you have any questions or comments.  I look forward to your reply.

Hi @Anonymous

I wanted to follow up with regards to this forum post.

The error message,"Unrecoverable exit code from extractor: -1073741831", is caused by BIM 360 Team not being able to complete the translation process on the AutoCAD DWG file.  This was due to the file size and how many objects were currently in the file.

The current workaround is to plot the sheets that are in the DWG file so that a floor plan is available to view on BIM 360 Team.  The DWG that gets uploaded should still be available for download.
