Hi,
Our team has a problem working with linked RVT files uploaded to BIM360 and accessed via Desktop Connector.
The main mechanical model is established as a cloud workshared model on BIM360. We collaborate with other design teams receiving Revit models from various file exchange services. Then we upload those files to our BIM360 host to a folder where we keep all links. Typically we use a web interface for that. This background update process is performed by a single person every week. Please note that we don't create cloud workshared models for links, it is not feasible on weekly basis.
We use the Autodesk Desktop Connector app and all those RVT files are linked to the main model via the Desktop Connector (DC). This workflow worked well for us for years, but recently something changed in DC and BIM360 and now we are facing several major problems. One of them is that all those linked files are constantly "modified" on workstations and get uploaded/updated back in BIM360 cloud.
When a user opens the main Revit model it loads other linked models via the DC. For some reason a loaded RVT link is marked as "modified" and DC starts uploading it to the cloud. At the same moment or few moments later other users also load the same link, it gets updated on their machines, and DC tries to upload those "modified" files to the cloud too. Here the conflict happens.
It happens for every project member.
Also every time when a user opens the main file and it loads the linked model, that "modified" linked model gets synchronized/uploaded to the cloud.
Such version history should not appear for a linked file. As mentioned above - only one person uploads links to BIM360 once a week.
The result of such file conflict is that designers have the linked RVT files unloaded. To reload links designers close Revit, resolve DC errors, then open the main files again with hope that the linked file would be loaded. Sometimes it doesn't happen and requires to repeat those steps again. A single cycle (close, fix, open) take about an hour, wasted time.
So my question is - would it be possible to avoid to mark linked models as "modified", when they are loaded to the main host model? I guess this question is mostly should be addressed to Revit and BIM360 developers, but I would be appreciated for any hint.
Thank you,
Evgeny.
