Hello BIM 360 Forum activists!

Am I the only one having the blurry printed pdf's using the print function?

The sheet looks very good in BIM 360:

Then the sheets becomes raster in print dialog:

And the print result is bad as well. For M 1:100 it is unusable. I have tried saving to PDF directly (Google Chrome option and Printing to pdf using Custom PDF from CutePDF, the result is the same)

Questions:

1.Am I the only one having this result;

2.What should be in order to overcome this?

We are now piloting BIM 360 usage on site. If this makes us publish pdf's instead of Revit drawings, that will be a "good" motivation!

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for participating in our community! I was wondering if you can add one of our developer to your project for further investigation. You can remove him once we are done with the investigation. Please let me know if you can then I will send you his email address via private message.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Thanks for reporting and sharing a sample file with our development team.
When printing vector 2D sheets from BIM 360, they indeed get converted to high-resolution raster image.
Then, this image is printed by the browser. Different browsers may have slightly different results when printing an image. Unfortunately, we're limited by the browser's printing capabilities.

In your case, here's what the high-resolution image captured in 'Print' looks like:
Print - Raster Image.png

The image itself is not blurry at actual size, but we did notice when it's printed to PDF through Chrome the result is slightly blurry at 100% zoom. Perhaps it's the difference in scale, but we weren't able to reproduce this with other test files.

We also noticed that when the resulting PDF is viewed in different PDF viewing/editing software, the 100% zoom setting doesn't produce consistent results - some seem sharper (Adobe Reader), and some slightly blurrier (Preview), as you can see below:

Adobe Acrobat PDF Viewer.pngPreview.png

Unfortunately, since we're quite limited by the browser's image-printing capabilities, we don't have a fix for this issue at the moment. We recommend trying to view in different PDF viewers, as some seem to have better results than others.

Best Regards,
Doreen Dvoretz
