Linking to PUBLISHED model. Pros/Cons?

Has anyone used the option to link to the PUBLISHED model, rather than the live liking or shared linking? I know it's possible to link to the actual published model by using desktop connector. This seems to be a happy medium between live liking and liking to shared models. If you have done so, have you ran into any issues?

Hi pgandolfo,

There is no issue with this as a workflow, but for ISO CDE compliance you should be linking to the correct shared model. The workflow when publishing may include a shared file that matches the published model. If this is not happening you may want to consider it.

Linking the published models works great for those discipline who require a design freeze. You'll just need to ensure they have access to the folder in BIM360 to allow linking. Each Publish will superseded the last so you may need to consider a workflow to ensure the 'correct' published file is being used, especially if the publish is frequent.

Hope this helps
