If I delete my Autodesk Docs folders does it delete the files on BIM 360?

One of my BIM 360 projects is now completely empty. The activity log shows a very long list of all the items that were deleted two weeks ago. I can't imagine anyone would go to BIM 360 to delete everything but I suppose it's possible. On a hunch, I ran a quick test and deleted a folder from a different project in my Autodesk Docs drive. Sure enough, the folder was deleted on BIM 360.

Is this the expected action? If it is, can I be the first to say this is a monumentally stupid system? If this is not the expected action, can someone explain why this is happening?

Hi @gbiallas

Yes this is intended behaviour, everything you see via the desktop connector is exactly what is in the cloud and what you see via the Web page, so if you delete in 1 place it is deleted everywhere.

It has to work this way, if your colleague added, edited or deleted something you would need to see this replicated in the Web interface or your desktop connector

If you login via the Web page you should see a deleted items page where you can restore them - https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/bim-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to...

Okay, I retract my "monumentally stupid" statement. It would be nice if a warning popped up though. Thank you Rob. You are a lifesaver.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen, especially since you HAVE TO DELETE THE DESKTOP CONNECTOR CACHE WHEN INSTALLING AN UPDATED VERSION. WTH.

Is there a way around it? I updated my desktop connector and now it is asking me to delete all the cache files in order to start it.

I think you can just move the folders out of the Autodesk Docs location then start desktop connector.

I changed the folder's name on the local and then started the desktop connector. It has created a new folder. Can I delete the folder that I have changed the name of?

Yes, all of your current files will be in the new folder so you can get rid of the old one.
