Hello,

We are getting errors when publishing from Revit to Design Collaboration in multiple models and projects. I know the Revit Cloud Service was down yesterday. Do you have a sloution for this? We need to get this fixed ASAP.

Hi Marius,

Could you please share more details?

E.g. if you can view it in Document Management, what the publish log in Design Collaboration says, or if you tried to re-publish. I did some published this morning and it worked as expected.

Thanks in advance,

Markus

 Hello Marius,

Thanks for raising this issue. Do the problematic models show up in Document Management just fine or are you seeing the same issue there too? Also did you try republishing some of those models (i.e. is the error intermittent or permanent)?

Best Regards

Manuel

Hi, and thank you for responding on this case.

I have tried to republish the models multiple times, and have also run audit on the files but the error are still showing up. One of the projects are reporting an extraction error in Document Management, but in another project things are just fine in Document Management with no errors in the Publish log.

For your information I also got a message from another company in a 3rd project, that they are getting the same error.

Regards

Marius

Hi Marius,

This is hard to diagnose here through the forum, I will send you a direct message here how to move on.

Best,

Markus

Can you guys give some information on how or if this was resolved?  I have an engineer with the same issue (right now) and we can not get it to work after days of trying different approaches.  We have tried deleting the revit file from BIM360 and re-uploading - same translation problem.  We have tried going through revit "manage cloud models" and updating that way - same translation problem.  We have tried auditing the revit file and re-uploading - same translation problem.  What is weird is that all other revit files are working fine that we have shared on BIM360.  We think it occurred when a new set was made.  We tried going back to the original name of the set - same translation problem.  Tried deleting all sets and creating a new one - same translation problem.

We can see the revit file in the file tree structure under document management but when you click it you get a red exclamation point.  Cant create packages under design collaboration because it says translation problem.  We feel like this is something that we can not solve without help from the other side...

Hello @ErikFrandsen,

After almost a week with good communication with Autodesk specialists, there have been some progress in this matter. One of the cases was a problem with adding view filters in 3D views with color overrides. This is typically made in MEP models showing different colors on system codes. Views which have these filters are getting extraction errors. This is logged as a bug that have to be fixed in a longer term perspective.

I got a message from Atodesk that they will implement a fix to the Collaboration module taking care of some of the publishing errors today, so keep you fingers crossed that this fix will solve you problem.

For visibility to others:
The product and support team worked closely with Marius on the issue he reported. Thanks a lot for that Marius.
As well the issue regarding view filters in this thread is the one I mentioned in my update post on the current state of investigation and solution regarding translation failures.

Thanks again for you patience,

Markus

FYI this fixed my "Failed to Translate" issue.

.  It’s possible there is something wrong with the model. See if the following steps do anything to resolve the issue:

  • Download the file from BIM 360 to your local hard disk.
  • Open the file with AUDIT and choose the option to create a new central file.
  • Once the file opens, SAVE AS and use the OPTIONS button to compact the file and make sure the option to make it a central file is checked on.
  • Initiate collaboration and upload it as a new model to BIM 360.
  • Try creating a set.

This workflow is not required to get things translating properly.  We had a defect in the translation pipeline that was fixed last Friday, the 2nd, and believe that's why you saw success.

I'm still seeing a similar problem in R2019 when using Design Collaboration, where the model shows as 'Failed to Translate', and when viewed in Docs there is a 'broken file' icon. We have a support case open (14964269), but its not really moving ahead at any pace, and we need to resolve this. Any suggestions?

If the error is not permanent but e.g. caused by some intermittent service instability, making a small change to the model and publishing an update version kicks of the translation process again. If that does not help we will need to do further investigation on our side and the support case would be the right way to do so.

After a week on a support case, is that really the best advice available? I have trawled through the forums, and tried re-publishing numerous times, but after many hours of spinning circles, the broken file icon appears in document manager, and the message 'failed to translate' re-appears. The model publishes correctly on its own, but with the linked files, it fails. Granted there, are quite a few linked files in this model (Arch, Structures, MEP, etc.) but I have tried various combinations of unloading models, and re-publishing, only for it to fail while processing on BIM360. We can work within the model in Revit, as we did with the old BIM360 teams and C4R, but none of the design collaboration or shared views on Docs are available for our team to view. We really need help on this one.

Hey David,

Here's a quick heads up on your support case in case you didn't get it directly already: a solution is being tested right now. If that is successful it will be available soon.

So stay tuned a bit more, thanks for your patience,

Markus

We are having exactly the same issue with the main model for a major project in BIM360 Design Collaboration. It is massively holding up a very large project - and we need a fix today.  Project timelines wait for no-one!

@adrian.esdaile I apologize for all your inconvenience. Unfortunately, there are always use cases where a translation can fail. We are constantly improving the resiliency and stability of our services which do the translation. Besides of this effort we do want to deliver more information about failed translation, unfortunately those efforts need some times. In the meantime may I ask you to give me access to your project (martyn.messerli@autodesk.com) so I can have a look to what failed while translation.

Unfortunately I can't provide access to the project - NDA agreements and we aren't the project admins anyway.

As it happened; after three days of the model showing "failed to translate" it suddenly started working properly about an hour after I posted my message. Maybe just coincidence!

@adrian.esdaile I'm glad that the problem has resolved for you. Of course it would be helpful to investigate the problem so we could further improve but I also understand your restriction. What you maybe could do is open the model which failed in BIM360 Docs (browse to the team folder and do the same also in the shared folder) and send me the link from the address bar as a personal message. You could also just send the last part of the url which is the model id (/items/urn:adsk.wip:dm.linage......).

Hi all,

Still having the same issues of failing to translate models into the server. It's been passed some time, have you guys found any solutions for this and the reason why it happens at all?

Thanks

Goncalo
