I mistakenly create an Attribute in the wrong folder (using "Add Attribute" button). How can I delete this attribute?

Hi Johan,

You can't delete an attribute at the moment, but you can hide it.

To hide an attribute, click the + button (the one you used to create the attribute) and select the attribute that you want to hide.

If you would like to delete the attribute completely, you could vote for this Idea and add any notes about your particular needs if you think it's the case.

Hope this helps you.

Regards,

Luciane

To be perfectly honest; I don't think these sort of issues should 'need' to be raised in an ideas section...... for a document control piece of software to not allow corrections is quite frankly extraordinary in this day and age (especially from a company with the global presence of Autodesk) and although BIM 360 DOCS is certainly improving, this sort of basic 'deletion' or UNDO of incorrect entries should have  been implemented as part of the basic functionality of the software before it was ever rolled out (especially something associated with with Document Control - control being the key word).

Some aspects are woefully inadequate and should be 'de rigour' in any modern software; these basic features have been available for many years in other solutions and we should expect this basic functionality as standard.

Extract from WiKipedia:

The Xerox PARC Bravo text editor had an Undo command in 1974.[5] Behavioral Issues in the Use of Interactive Systems, a 1976 research report by Lance A. Miller and John C. Thomas of IBM, noted that "It would be quite useful to permit users to 'take back' at least the immediately preceding command (by issuing some special 'undo' command)."[6] The programmers at the Xerox PARC research center assigned the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-Z to the undo command, which became a crucial feature of text editors and word processors in the personal computer era.[7]

Hi Andrew,

The BIM 360 Docs team is working on a number of usability and functionality enhancements, and I understand and appreciate your input about attributes.

I have a question about your expectations.  When can an attribute (which is inherited in subfolders) be deleted?  If there is simply an attribute added at the folder level, but no attributes have been entered for the documents, it is very straightforward.  However, what do you think should happen in these cases?

1) There is an attribute defined at the folder level and there are attribute values associated with some or all documents in the folder.

2) There is an attribute defined at the folder level (which is inherited in the subfolders), and there are attribute values associated with some or all documents in one or more subfolders.

Do you agree that Docs should pop up a warning and allow deletion (after confirmation)?

Should you be able to restore deleted attributes (and their values)?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Best Regards,

Hi Joan,

Yes, if I delete an attribute Docs should give me a simple "Are you sure?" message. When accepting the attribute should be deleted in current folder and all subfolders.

A restore should be nice in the case of a user not aware of the implications that deleting an attibribute will also delete this attribute in all subfolders.
