Bandwidth usage over high-bandwidth low-latency connections

We have Revit and Navisworks users scattered around the globe, but now they should work together on BIM projects with up to few 100 GB of files. This doesn't work reasonably with a shared fileserver due to latency, even with SMB 3. Copying (or opening) files from remote file server can take several hours even with a gigabit connection between the sites.

Does BIM 360 (or another product like Revit server) use a better mechanism to transfer content? Say, if I have a 200 GB project in BIM 360 and need to download it to my workstation that has a 500 mbps ISP connection, does it take 1 minute (theoretical maximum), 10 minutes (acceptable) or several hours (like with SMB)?
