Working offline on BIM360 Design

Hi

We recently purchase BIM360 Design, however we are not able to work on Revit File (2018 Version) in offline mode? Using BIM360 can we only work in online mode?

Please help in providing more details

Thank you

BIM 360 Design enables cloud based collaboration of multiple design teams. There is no offline mode that allows this workflow.

To get a good understanding of BIM 360 Design please have a look at this post, especially the section 'What Can I Do With BIM 360 Design?'

I could image with offline mode you might mean just viewing files. I that case an option could be the BIM 360 Docs app (iOs or Android), which comes with an offline mode.

Thank you for your reply.

If I can understand, we cannot work in offline mode for any file uploaded using BIM360Design. We can only work if we are online as file is storaged and workable via cloud (Autodesk cloud server)

In this case, do we need high config local CPU for our working (32 GB Ram with Graphic Card). If the file is on cloud then a normal PC (2GB Ram without Graphic Card) should also be fine? Only internet speed should matter for loading & working on Huge files (Say with linked pointcloud recap files?

Kindly inform

@Anonymous I understand your assumption regarding the required performance. One of the key features of Design Collaboration is to understand changes. To do so, we use 3D Models or 2D Views where users can see and compare changes.

Depending on the size of your project this requires the application to load a lot of data from the "Cloud" (100's MB or even GB). So memory can be a limiting factor.

As mentioned, changes can be viewed as 2D Sheets and also 3D Models which is a heavy graphic card dependent operation to have a smooth experience.

I have no figures, but memory and graphic card performance are crucial to the working experience with Design Collaboration.

Is there a method of working offline, this is needed for when our AE group travels to remote job sites and internet capabilities are very limited.  They want to be able to edit the model there and then merge those changes once they come back to publish to the team and to update the cloud model.

Using link-bind has the problem of everything is duplicated in the group that is created and once you ungroup you now have to go through and remove all of the duplicates.

Anyone have ideas for solving this?
