Isn't it possible to upload an entire folder?  Or a zipped file?

Thank you

Hello karenRS8WK,

Docs will allow you to upload a zipped file, but it will fail to process the upload. This does not mean that your file/data is corrupt, it means Docs will not be able to analyze the file contents to generate a thumbnail or allow viewing. The upload succeeds, but the resulting thumbnail could lead one to assume it did not. Once uploaded, you should be able to download the zipped file to your local system for viewing or modification(s).

With regards to uploading an entire folder, this is not possible at this time. I tried to upload an entire folder containing 500 text files, but Docs did not allow this via the "Upload" button or drag-&-drop method.

A possible workaround is to:

  1. Create a folder by the same name in Docs
  2. Click on the "Upload" button
  3. In the Windows file selection dialog, navigate to the files that are contained within the folder you wanted to upload
  4. Select all files (Ctrl+A) and click "Open"
  5. All of the contained files will upload at once to the created folder

I hope this response is helpful.

Thank you for choosing Autodesk.

Thank you for the reply.

I wanted to upload a filing structure containing multiple folders and subfolders.

I now understand that it not possible to do that.

We understand that it would be beneficial to provide folder upload capabilities, and this is something we are considering for a future product update.

If you have any other suggestions for product enhancements, please add them to our Idea Station.  Thank you for using BIM 360 Docs!

Is there any update on this? Potential timeline? I have folder structures broken down by about 30 discipline sub-folders containing almost 40 document type sub-folders. Being able to upload these folder structures would be an immense help. It would also be beneficial if the project template ability was developed. I understand it's been mentioned in other threads but I'm not sure when it is expected to be developed, I thought it was in the road map but didn't see it.

Yeah, it's ridiculous to think we will do this for existing projects. The time implications are ridiculous considering the number of folders and subfolders. The current solution is unacceptable. A deal breaker for existing projects.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you so much for great feedback. I would highly recommend to submit any feedback on the “BIM 360 IdeaStation” link on the BIM 360 community home page.  This will help the Project Manager and developers hear your voice on any changes/concerns with functionality directly for consideration in future builds.

Thank you and have a great day!

@Anonymous @nagaraj.deshpande if you want to upload folders in the Project Files area, then you can use the Drag & Drop method using Desktop Connector. Please see the attached video.

Yay! It works now. I was skeptical because in the video, Deepak did not show what was in the folders.

I dragged several folders full of more folders and files from my network location to the Docs location using Windows Explorer. All the subfolders and files in those subfolders copied over and I am seeing them in Docs on my web browser.

Unfortunately, It doesn't work when you have a large folder structure due to the 244-character limit.
