I am working with an architect in Florida and I am in NY. She has projects setup already. She has invited me to a project.  I can see the project and all of the files.

When I try to open the file I am directed to, I get a popup saying..

"You are opening the published version of the Revit cloud model"

_Click open to open the published version as a detached model. To open the Revit cloud model, click Go to Revit home and select the cloud model."

She said that is the model to use but how can this be?

To add

I can only access autodeskdocs via desktop when in Revit.  I can't see it as its own "drive"

We are using Revit 2021

We are both working on the architectural model.  She said other consultants don't have issues but I think they don't because they are just using the arch model as a background.

Can you confirm that you are on the Revit Home within Revit when trying to open the model? Also, confirm that the model there has the words "Workshared Cloud Model" beside the model name? Trying to access the model in any other way will not result in accessing a central model but rather a static model.

I am in the revit home

Models > Open>desktop (to see ADocs icon) >>> [Revit folder in bim 360]

When I click once on the correct file, the description to the side says, "published version of workshare cloud model"

Alright I think I see the issue now. To access workshared models in Revit 2020+ you no longer use the Open dialog box. On the Revit home, you should see Autodesk Docs on the left side below everything else. Click on that and navigate to the project and then the model you want to open.

Where you have autodesk docs I have Bim 360 and can't access the files that way. I was told to specifically access the file in the manner I described.

They change all the time.

Use this

no use this

now you do it this way....

headache

why so many way to mess it up?

Not being able to access it the way I described would indicate you do not have the proper permissions to the folder or you do not have a BIM360 license assigned to you. Whomever is managing the BIM360/Docs project will need to give you Edit permissions to work collaboratively and not in a published/static model. Check with whomever manages your companies Autodesk licensing and confirm you have a BIM360/ABC Pro License.

You mentioned earlier that other consultants aren't having this issue and you are probably correct if they are only linking in the Arch model. Linking does not require Edit permissions.

On a side note, I understand the frustration of the constant change of platform naming and access. The main way to remember how to access is anything prior to Revit 2020 is through the Open dialog box, and anything post Revit 2020 is through the Revit home interface.

When using a model with someone in another city, there are several options available to facilitate effective collaboration. And if you are looking for a good option in construction and remodeling niche. I have a good recommendation for BIM services in Florida. They are specialize in providing top-notch BIM solutions tailored to meet your specific needs.
