When publishing a Revit cloud model on BIM360, all of the cloud based linked files also get published within the host file. The finished file sizes on BIM360 are huge and unusable. how do i stop the linked models being published with the host model?

All files are cloud models, all within the same BIM360 project.

What workflow are you using to publish?

I would recommend the following:

  1. Check the reference type on your linked models in the manage links window, it should be set to Overlay for what you are trying to accomplish. I believe only links set as attachment will convey when published but am not 100% sure.
  2. Create views specifically for publishing that show exactly what you want to be shown.
  3. Go to publish settings and create a set that has only the views that you want to be published.

There are 2 ways to control this

1 - Create views in Revit to only show the linked model or the model without the linked model and assign to Sets so that they can be easily viewed in BIM 360

2 - Use the model browser to turn off the required elements in the BIM 360 model viewer.

There are no controls to show/hide linked models in BIM 360.

I have tested the model by publishing only one 3D view with all links turned off and this doesn't help. I suspect the issue is something to do with the host model residing in the same folder on BIM360 as the linked models.

Yesterday I started having the opposite problem - links were no longer included and I couldn't figure out how to get them included again... This was our main workflow for downloading the archictect's (& other consultants') models, so now I'd have to request a Publish from them and wait... as if BIM 360 workflows weren't convoluted enough.
