Location extra tool

Hi

I'm wondering why in location settings (with Build) I could draw a polyline and link sheets, but not with Docs? What's the point of having only text location in one module and additional functionality in another?

In Build I found it very useful to be able to add a location when we need to create issues, as these automatically bind to the location.

We've faced the same limitation, especially with it not being a parity feature with BIM 360.

This also stems from ACC now having two disparate data locations, rather than as one in BIM 360.

I would love to use Docs/Files for defining Location Areas, so they can be used during design workflows.

Exactly. We need location in the design and coordination phase more than others.

And we still need location in field, but for different reasons.

I think Autodesk should add the location tool in Docs for pdf and in Build for their sheets only.

This is a very timely thread about Locations.

The September ACC Release Notes were posted yesterday which included Importing Locations from Revit.

Locations | Import Locations from Revit –To accelerate implementing locations in Autodesk Construction Cloud, project administrators can now import location hierarchy straight from Revit.

This is an excellent new addition, especially since we can select a DC Shared model.

But it is also affirming that Locations stem from the design space and stage. And in the instances where you may be publishing (extracting) Revit Sheets in Files, you now have both drawings and rooms in the Files space.

So, if Files can now give us everything that we need for Locations, and without needing to perform any tasks offline, why are we required to dumb the process down to PDFs that need manually uploading to Sheets? 🤔

ACC no longer has any reason to stop us from selecting drawings in Files with which we can define Location Areas.

The process also requires a workflow to transition these Files drawings (and Areas) into Sheets.

Import Locations from Revit is a solid start, but it still needs to go further.
