Desktop Connector Update Lost my BIM360 Revit Links

I just updated my Autodesk Desktop Connector today, and then opened my BIM360 Revit file.  I got a message that all my linked files (2 Revit links and 3 CAD links) were unloaded because the link was not found.  I am not able to find a way to reload these files.

Previously, I had used the BIM360 folder from windows explorer to 'upload' these files to the BIM360 cloud.  Then in Revit, I would copy + paste my BIM360 folder path into Revit and then load from there.  I was doing this because Revit's 'External References' button was not finding my files.

I have a deliverable due at the end of this week, and am needing assistance to locate these files and reconnect them to Revit.  Any ideas are welcome.

Hi @andybonesz,

Thank you for participating in our forum community!

When linking in Revit, the "External Resources" button will only display Revit Cloud Workshared models. To link in non-workshared models, Desktop Connector can be used (See option #2 in Link Models in BIM 360)!

  1. When adding or reloading a link in Revit, instead of External Resources, select "My Computer" button from the menu on the left-hand side.
  2. At the top of the dialog box it should say "Look in: This PC."
  3. Under Devices & Drives, double click "BIM 360" and from their navigate to the desired Account > Project > Folder. All files from BIM 360 should now be visible, including any non-workshared Revit models or CAD files.

If this answers your question, please click the "Accept Solution" button so others may benefit from your post. If not, can you please send some additional screenshots of what options you're seeing when attempting to reload or add links? Thanks!

Hi Renata,
The issue seems to be the new desktop connector update, which got rid of my BIM360 drive. Instead of BIM360, I see 'Drive' with the Autodesk logo. This drive doesn't contain any of my old files, it doesn't appear to be linked to my BIM360 docs portal. I am not sure what is causing this.

BIM360 DOCS PORTAL:

Thank you for your help,

HI @andybonesz

Ahhhh I see! The main issue you have is that after installing the new update for Desktop Connector, you no longer have visibility/access to the BIM 360 drive.

Have you tried:

  • Restarting your computer since updating?
  • Refreshing the drives? To do this:
    1. Right click on your Windows System Tray in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.
    2. Find the Desktop Connector icon (a white Autodesk "A") and right click on it.
    3. Click "Refresh Drives."
  • Signing out and back into Desktop Connector?

Please let me know if any of the above steps resolve the issue for you. If not, I'm happy to continue troubleshooting with you.

Embarrassed to admit that a simple restart solved the issue.

Thank you for your patience in helping me solve this!

Our Desktop Connector now won't display new Revit file in a one of our project or publish any of the project in it??

Works fine in other project. Try updating, restarting and reinstalling. Nothing works.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for your response on here! It sounds like you may be referencing Revit Cloud Workshared models, not models via Desktop Connector? This article does a good job explaining the differences: Using Revit Cloud Models

With Revit Cloud Worksharing, BIM 360 projects must be accessed in the version of Revit in which the models were created. See: BIM 360 project is missing when opening from Revit

Please let me know if the above articles address your issue! If not, I'd love to learn a little more about the issue you are experiencing. Screenshots are always a bonus!

Hi Thanks, I mention above that other projects are working fine for use? This is a problem with one project only in BIM360.

All existing model in this project will not publish for Revit and any new Revit model create will appear but also will not published!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Thanks for your response! Is the issue you're seeing with Desktop Connector, or with publishing a workshared model from Revit to BIM 360?

Can you please describe the steps you are taking in Revit and the unexpected behavior that occurs from those actions? What is the expected behavior you're hoping to see? Any screenshots you can provide might be helpful in narrowing down what the issue is.

Thanks!

It was publishing a workshared model from Revit to BIM 360. It has being resolve, but had 3 different department working on it and we don't know for sure what cause it or solve it? If I do find out, I'll note it here.

Hi,

The fix you mentioned in not working for current updates of desktop connector.  Here is my issue.

User working in 2021.

User is added to BIM 360 project team, with Design Collaboration.

IT installs Desktop connector (version Build 14.11.0.1476) for users.

In windows explorer users sees the latest desktop connector ACC Docs

User opens project in Revit.  He navigates to the BIM 360 recent files cloud files to open his Revit model.

None of the linked files show up.

Try to reload and browse to the ACC Docs but file will not load.

When we try to reload from "BIM360" there are no files to load.

Other users on  the project team are able to open the file fine.

This is happening to many projects.  Why?

Must everyone be on the same version of desktop connector?
