Control visible elements in project model in design collaboration

Hello

I am trying to figure out how to control what view in a model is being used by the design collaboraiton module when viewing the project model.

I have a model that contains railing but I cannot get that railing to appear in the Project Model within the Design Collaboraiton module.  The railing is visible from 3D views that I have added to sets that I publish to Document Management.

So I want to know if there is any way to control what 3D elements are visible in the project model.  Is it using the default 3D view {3D}?? Wht if that view had been deleted?

I assume I must be missing something so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @jamie.sidford ,

Is this a project on BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud?

It sounds like you are doing everything you should when publishing the models into Design Collaboration but for some reason the railings are not displaying once in Design Collaboration.

What version of Revit are you using?

Have you made sure you are running the latest services updates for Revit?

If you view the model in BIM 360 Docs or Autodesk Docs can you see the railings in the 3D view within there?

Hi @Anonymous

This is a BIM 360 Docs project.

We are using Revit 2021, specific version details below

21.1.20.44
20201109_1530(x64)
2021.1.2

I believe we are running all the latest updates.

I have attached two screenshots, one to show the railings visible when looking at the appropriate 3D view in Document Management. The other shows the same model but in the Project Model view in Design Collaboration. You can see the gates but not the railing.

Hi @jamie.sidford ,

It does appear your Revit build is out of the date. There has been some updates recently see this Autodesk Knowledge Network project update page for Revit 2021. You are on 2021.1.2 and latest is 2021.1.5. You can update through your Autodesk desktop app if you have the permissions to do so. Otherwise you will need to speak with your IT support team to do it for you. Try that and see if it corrects the issue.

Now looking at the two images I can see the gates show ok but the railing/fencing does not. Is it something you have created or downloaded from the web which a manufacture or 3rd party has created?

I have my IT dept sorting out the update to make it available for install.  Unfortunately I have to wait for them to test it before they will allow me to install it.

The railing is standard Revit railing created using profiles for hotizontal and vertical members.

I will update when I get the newest version of Revit installed.

Hi @jamie.sidford ,

Log a support case with Autodesk or if you have a re-seller get in touch with them. They can raise it direct with Autodesk for you.

I hope you manage to fix the issue.

I got a response from Autodesk

In Document Management and in Model Coordination, you are opening or viewing distinct "3D-Views" with pre-defined visibility settings.

This is different in Design Collaboration: Here, you are not opening a distinct 3D view, but you are usually viewing the "project model" of a specific team. The project model is usually derived from the "default 3D-View" ({3D}):

Note: If your model does not contain the default {3D} view, this view will automatically be created with your default "view template" settings:

So based on the above I checked my model and the default view had been deleted.  This means Design Collaboration was creating a default view using whatever template I had set to be used when creting new 3D views in the model. That template had the railing category turned off!! tada!!

I created a new view template and made it the deault one to use when creating new 3D views in the mode. After re-publishing the model the project model view in Design Collaboration was fixed.

@gareth.spencer1  thanks for your suggestions and trying to help.

Fanatic glad you managed to get it sorted. I certainly didn't know that happened with the views if the default 3D view was not include.

Thanks for sharing the answer.

This is one of the more annoying flaws in the design workflow.

To be able to define a Revit view which is used in Docs and Model Coordination, but then it uses something different in Design Collaboration is not the definition of consistency.

We should be able to define how each model looks after it comes in via a package, and before it is viewed in the Project Model. The platform user/s should define this, not Revit.
