BIM360 file not showing in Revit

We have our project on BIM360 and when we upload a file there it shows up in the web browser but it does not show the file if we try to browse to it through Revit. What could be causing this?

For a BIM 360 Revit file to show up within the Revit open dialog, I believe that it needs to be uploaded/saved to BIM 360 using Collaborate in Cloud from within Revit.

Hi thalden1133, there are two reasons I can think of

In no particular order, as already suggested if the file was dragged and dropped or the upload file option was used then this is simply a EDMS (electronic document management system) file and not a cloud workshare file. In order to use this file in Revit you'll need to download it to your LAN and then access from Revit

If the file was published to the BIM 360 site by someone else then maybe the issue is you haven't been assigned the BIM 360 Design license.

From Revit the file should be published to the cloud, thus enabling cloud worksharing. In order to do this you'll need a BIM 360 design License from Autodesk to do this, and the license is then assigned to a named individual by your account administrator (they aren't floating licenses).

Hope this helps

Hi @Anonymous ,

Thanks for your question! There are different ways to open a BIM 360 model in Revit depending on if it has been collaborated to BIM 360 (Revit Cloud Worksharing) or not (Desktop Connector). This article talks about the different options: Using Revit Cloud Models

Have had similar issues; I uploaded three files to BIM 360 via drag-and-drop function and then tried to link them, but they were not visible.

Open the folder via Desktop Connector, and if files are visible there, copy the path from the Windows Explorer Bar.

Go to revit, and add a revit link. Paste the Folder path.

Worked for me...not sure if it will work for you!

Viewing files through the B360 icon needs to meet the following criteria.

1- The PROJECT needs to be the year of the Revit version. So if the project was already a 2018 one, you cannot initiate a revit cloud work sharing model in 2019 on it. The project is locked as a 2018 one. You need to upgrade the models to the required year in order to have them visible in the Revit year.

2- Be sure that you have all security updates on the model. This can cause some issues.

3-Also ONLY Models initiated (Collaborated) thru Revit are visible on the B360 Icon. No drag and drop file can be opened. Also please do not open the Revit cloud initiated model thru the Desktop Connector. Its the wrong workflow.

Thanks.

Did you upgrade models that were in it in a previous version of revit? If you open up a previous version of revit can you still access the project and models? It could be that the project is straddling both versions. Which is weird.

try creating another project in Docs and initiate the newer model. I have had issues similar when upgrading revit models.

Sorry, I just realized I replied to the wrong post.  But I essentially have the same issue as the original post here.  I upgraded my project from 2019 to 2022 through the cloud.  I can no longer access these files through REVIT 2019. I have no problem accessing  the files at my end after the upgrade, but none of my coworkers have access through REVIT 2022. They can see them when logging into BIM 360 Document Management.

Hi.

Can you ensure that all modelers have the latest security fix updates on Revit 2022. I’m not sure what it is now on 2022 out of there is one out. I would only work on the revit with at least a security hotfix. Also ensure the desktop connector is the same version.

I have tried the upgrade route a few times on BIM360. It is a delicate process.

Hi s.odwyer,

Are you saying that I can't update linked models on BIM360 using desktop connector? When I upload models using desktop connector I am not able to see them from Revit when I go to 'reload from'. I can see them in the desktop connector file structure and on BIM360 web interface, but not in Revit where I need them.

thanks,

Alex

I solved this issue for my org by changing Folder Permissions. Files became visible in Revit once I changed permission from View + Download + Upload to View + Download + Upload + Edit.

Those permission packages are not visually distinguishable in the B360 UI unless you click on them.

This definitely solves the problem of allowing users to see collaborated models on BIM 360 through the Revit and the BIM 360 icon.

But what do you do when you don't want a user (from another discipline) to be able to edit the Revit model. You just want them to "View" it like the lower permission states. I have found the "View" permissions allow viewing only on BIM 360 through the internet browser. Should they not be allowed to view and not open through revit? This is confusing to me. But i am new to this.

Hi Curtis

The system is set up as a collaborative environment. There are 3 Revit levels of trust within the set up.
1- Fully trusted.
this is where all disciplines are “live” linked to each other and are synching. This ensures full visibility of everyone’s model. Potential here is that other disciplines can edit each others models.
2- Half trusted

this is where each discipline creates a package and shares them in the swim lane within Design collaboration. They can still edit the consumed package but it’s not the live model. This is a snapshot model and not live.
3- non trusted

In this situation the model is linked via the shared folder. It’s just another option. It’s similar to the half trusted but just another location to link.

If you are wary of not using Revit models and the whole editing. An nwc expert can be used and the models linked via the coordination tab in Revit.

it all boils down to the team. Giving collaborators view rights to folders will not help the delivery of the project. Only cause delays and money loss for all.

same condition with me , if we are trying to upload the revit file without open than it is not visible to other team member , if you open revit file than upload through collaborate option , than it will be visible .
