During the Design Collaboration process it is great that we can incorporate IFC models into the process.
When consumed, those IFCs are shown in the Project Model's Teams panel so their visibility can be controlled.
However, when those IFC models are linked into Revit it creates the corresponding .ifc.RVT file, as well as any backups of these files when the IFC is revised. All of those Revit-specific files now show in the Project Model's Teams panel, and those Revit-specific files may not have the correct alignment with the other models.
This causes two problems.
- It is untidy to show models that aren't relevant to the Design Collaboration process. The models list can get quite long without adding redundant models.
- But more importantly, those not versed in the subtleties of Design Collaboration and Revit get confused when they see multiple models with similar names. The important take away from this is that with this uncertainly comes the risk that the user may use an incorrect model, which as noted above may not be aligned with other models. Coordination requires certainty, which this does not always offer.
There needs to be a way to either:
- Have Design Collaboration understand that an ifc.RVT file is a by-product of Revit linking, and therefore to automatically hide them. Or,
- Allow the user to manually choose which ifc.RVT files to hide, on the chance that some users may want them visible.
In both cases, I feel the backup .RVT files (e.g. .0001.RVT) should never show in the Project Model's Teams panel.
